And Atlanta has to add one of Coop or Martin to the squad and the other to 2 way since Brown already has the other 2 way spot. Right now, that's looking like Martin as he keeps us out of the LT due to being a rookie minimum and Coop already has an offer for another two way deal like Mays had last year.
No, when you include Griffin we're already $1.8 million into the LT. Marks isn't including Griffin. Add the rookie salary not on a 2 way and you're about $3 million above the LT with 1 roster spot open.

@thecampster Can we added Harkless to any trade right now or we have to wait?
"A team can trade a player they just traded for if the transaction was a straight-up deal. However, if they wish to include that player in a package with another player or draft picks, there is a 60 day waiting period before they may do so.
The only exception to this rule is that the team that traded the player away cannot re-acquire him. He can be traded by the acquiring team immediately provided it is a 1 for 1 deal, one that does not involve at least 3 players."
So for example, they could move him for a 2nd round pick. They could trade him for someone's draft rights. They could trade him for someone making 25% more than him + 1 of the trade exceptions (about $6.5 million in salary max). Or they wait 60 days to package him.

Can you ever pinpoint me calling someone a bum? I was nice to Bruno and I wanted him traded.

If he can hit the 3 at a decent rate, hopefully he can enjoy the type of efficiency that he did in the 2020 and 2021 seasons and not what he has had over his overall career. I expect he will be shooting little other than wide open jumpers. Harkless on the other hand is much better than Holiday at getting to the rim and that is where he does his "damage" (probably overstating it) on offense.
Harkless is a bum (IMHO) and I'll be perfectly happy when we pay one of those excess 2nd round picks for someone to take him off our hands. There are better players to be had at a vet minimum right now. He was salary to get the deal done and nothing else. What we get with Harkless is a salary that can be packaged with a trade exception to bring back a $7-10 million player. I don't expect him here for the first game of the season. I don't expect him here in 3 weeks. I could be wrong on both.
I love Kevin and in 3 years he is going to all make us wish we'd never done this deal but he plays scared 90% of the time. Both Huerter and Griffin would be competing for the same minutes at backup small forward this year....Griffin weighs 24 lbs more than Kevin.....Kevin plays like it. We went light at the 1 and 2 guard and needed some bulk to make up for that. I'm going to miss him but Holiday's stats are almost identical to Kevin's with much better defense. Kevin has a better ball on the floor, get to the basket game but do we really need that with Murray and Trae on the floor together. Kevin became expendable for our new tougher, dawg mentality and I hate it. He was mine and my wife's second favorite Hawk and I'll miss him. But this is a very good trade for us in this moment, right now.

JJ did score 22 a game in the G-League fairly effortlessly.

is this better or worse than what Derrick White fetched?
Josh Richardson and Romeo Langford and a top-four-protected 2022 first-round pick was the cost for White. But to be fair, there was no chance of that pick being in the lottery. Pretty much the same value.

Kev is on a good deal. He does what you need him to do. He fills in adequately when called on. He's a great team player and personality. Fans love him...
Other than the wing glut, there's no reason to move him. Even in that, I'd move Bogi first. Another deal coming makes sense...and it has to be for a legit upgrade. Anything else is basically what we just dealt away in Red Velvet.
Sick to my stomach just saying his nickname...
I have been saying for 18 months that other teams love Kevin and want him. A lottery protected 1st, 2 expiring and we should get a trade exception is pretty close to equal value that Detroit just got for Jeremi Grant which numerous posters on this board were willing to give for JC straight up. Bogi due to the health issues has less value than Kevin. That's why it was Kevin. You wouldn't have gotten a 1st back for Bogi without taking on bad salary.

Ah hell!
it’s either Ayton or Simmons I suppose.
im hoping it’s Ayton .
Why do I even bother posting Cap information. The Ayton trade would increase our Cap by $11 million. We are currently $6 million from the Apron and need 2 more players (min 2 mil each). Basically we'd have to clear $10 million in salary now to get Ayton. Its not happening without dumping Bogi or JC as well.

These guys are desperately trying to avoid the tax...forget about Simmons or Ayton!
This puts us at 13 players (assuming everyone stays) and right at $151 million in salary (a smidge over the tax line).

This is a very good move for Kevin. He will get ample playing time with the ball in his hands, freedom to shoot.

Salary shedding to get a FRP.. Glad he went west and not stayed in the east!
So this move saves Atlanta about $4 million this year and both players are expiring next year freeing them up for another move. This also returns one of the picks in the Murray deal. Remembering 1 of those picks came in the Cam deal.

So theoretically we could play over the LT line right up to the trade deadline and then dump enough salary to get under and not actually pay the tax?
yes but just so you don't go getting all excited. 15 players we're going to be at About $158-160 million minimum. We'd have to drop 7.5-$10 million in salary at that time.

What is the date that everything has to be under the LT line or pay the tax? Is it the start of the season? End of season? Obviously today is the start of the new NBA Year, but I'm guessing they aren't paying the tax based on today's salaries since we don't know who will sign or be traded away.
See...that's a great question. Last day of the season for "paying the tax". Current state for signings/trade rules.

Two Hawk free agents gone to other teams. Knox and Wright.
I mentioned that bit on Knox the other day. They would have been willing to keep him on a min, min+ deal for a year but knew he could get a better deal elsewhere with an opportunity for playing time. With them not offering him, I thought it was fairly certain his agent already had a suitor lined up.

Oh did we not read the fine print which states the "hair" may or may not be from Simmons and may not even be human hair at all?
Then you better get with the people on the ordering desk. I was very clear with them that the voodoo ritual I was using the hair for required authentic hair and they assured me that rider was only in there to protect against any lawsuits from the fan club of Benjamin Simmons of Clarksdale, Florida. I have the chat transcript.

Trading Harkless for a 2nd rounder wouldn't create the full million. Remember that's another roster spot you have to fill. Vet min average is $2 million. So yes it creates some salary but we're going to operate over the LT this year barring another trade.
