So, let me catch up... @Sothron acknowledged that Murray was the big secret on his side. Can @NBASupes and @thecampster confirm that they've heard something similar now?

I told you exactly what I was told.  Everything we'd heard up until June 9th was just a smokescreen. Something big was going on. I was never given a name. My old source knew but couldn't say. My young source couldn't get anything he could share. When discussed, Sothron had heard something but didn't get a name until a few days ago but didn't/couldn't share. I'd told @AHF and @JayBirdHawk about it in the interim with the same info I dropped on your guys yesterday (minus the JC bit). I didn't want to speculate. I find it hard to swallow. I love JC but I get it and understood everything I was told.

Too many people see JC+OO for Murray and get wrapped up in those players only.  They forget it creates space ($13.3 million).  That deal can easily be the space needed to resign Delon Wright, Knox and a replacement center.  Here, choose any from this list. If you want a championship, you need money. $45 million tied up in Gallo, Collins is a lot of money. Throw in another 18 million for can't keep his knees healthy Bogi and its really hard to pick up good salary.

Okay, now that all the excitement has calmed down, can we talk actual numbers?

Murray is making $16.57 mil next year

JC is making $23.5 next season.

Spurs can ask for a haul all they want to but they have to give us more back than just Murray.

If the rumors are true and its JC+ multiple picks + another young player, let’s just say that brings our value to 30+ mil outgoing

So, what on Earth is SAS going to be sending back with Murray to make this trade work?

Am I off base, cap people? I don’t do numbers for a reason

At the completion of the trade, SAS remains under the cap. The Hawks take back less salary then sending out.  Numbers don't matter.

Barnes don't even give us enough money to compete a SnT for Ayton. It's disgusting that's he's been mention. Give us someone like Holmes. At least we can flip him. Barnes is useless, we can't even flip him

You can trade Barnes at the deadline to a team that's tanking since he's an expiring.

Also is this last years numbers or since clint has been here i would love to see clints numbers for the year he finished top 3 to 5 in defense for us like 2 or so years ago.

20-21 they were 7.3 points better defensively with CC on the floor.

20-21 Utah was 13.4 point better defensively with Rudy on the floor.

His difference really was that big.  They were also 6.9 points better per 48 offensively with Rudy on the floor. He can be that impactful.

Im sorta interested in seeing what our defense without capela is.  Do we have the numbers on that and is their anyone on the Jazz defense anywhere near as bad as Trae and Bogi's together than Rudy has to overcome on the perimeter.  Thats something i would be worried about as well.

    image.thumb.png.ee2ae01ee7ed3d7b978a6126d1fc6fe5.png

That's Capela's on/off this year.  On court, we give up 116.1, off court we give up 115.4. We are .7 points better with Capela off court than on.

Addendum.  Capela spends a lot of his time on the court with Trae (also why offense is up a good bit vs off court).  We're playing against backups typically when Capela is off the floor.  I did a whole comparison on this using Cap and Gobert.  Rudy = better the last 3 years vs other centers.  But his team off vs on is better, much better than Clint on defense.

  7. Thought bubble for everyone here.  One interesting player who rumors are won't get drafted is Scottie Pippen Jr.  Concerns about his height, shot selection, handles.

I could honestly see us taking him in the 2nd round or signing him after the draft to a G-League deal.  He's got a very high BBIQ and patience which IMHO is greater than most measurables.

Some of those offers are not from those teams but from the Hawks.

    1. Declined by SAC

    2. Portland wants Sharpe, if he's available, he's gone at 7

    3. Squrs at 9. I haven't heard that. Bogi is the name that comes up with the Spurs.

    4. Capela getting pushed more but there was JC talk at one time.

    5. Jazz wants too much

    6. Hawks don't want Grant like that and decline 16/Bogi

    7. Simmons not available and Capela is the guy they want from Atlanta and have made numerous offers for him.

Interested teams for JC are Portland, Sacramento, Indiana, Wizards and the Bulls. Oh and the Jazz.

Damn near half the league called about Clint. Similar for Kevin. About the same as JC for Bogi

On Simmons, Nets have waffled back and forth but they are considering turning the PG duties over to him next year, walking away from Kyrie and back filling talent.  Chance of landing Simmons right now is <5%, if that. Probably shouldn't even be discussed.
