  1. He is 3 months younger than JC was when he played Summer League. The important thing here is patience. If he grows any more, he'll be at least a PF. Comparing him to Hunter and Reddish might be the wrong target. I've been trying to put my finger on a target comparison for him. He's smoother than Aaron Gordan but not quite as explosive. He's a better shooter than Josh Smith and has smoother handles but is not as strong. He is an excellent passer but does try to force passes he doesn't need to. Far too graceful for his size and length, good instincts rebounding around the basket but relies on his hops over technique. I really haven't been able to come up with a good comparison. He has a little Kukoc in him but is a better leaper. He really is kind of a unicorn. If I have any concern about him after 4 summer league games is that he may be too unselfish. It was a super quiet 25 today. In the flow of the game but lacked the instinct to take over the game like he is capable. He may be too polite to ever live up to his gifts. Weird, I know.
  2. In other news, Mays and Johnson will be seeing a chiropractor tomorrow after carrying this squad on their backs. Johnson+May's 51pts, rest of the Hawks 43.
  3. JJs salary came in higher than previously listed. CC qualifies for a bonus. That's most of the difference.
  4. You might if you consider a few very important things. Bogi stated he was still recovering from Covid when he came into camp and it was affecting him while playing (said he never had his wind, foot speed). His injury was a blessing as it let him recover. Not having Bogi or Hunter at the same time really hurt him. Although Hunter / Cam was out late, the major improvement to the team from Nate came with the continued focus from Huerter to shore up his positional defense. Kevin learning to stay in front of his man (about game 30 on) was as important as a healthy Bogi. The major switch from Nate was how he changed from go, go, go with the offense to go fast but Trae don't initiate until everyone is in front of you in the half court, especially in the 4th quarter. Trae's efficiency went up and our defense improved. The improved health of Bogi, Huerter's corner turn and Nate's reduction in t/o by making everyone run ahead so Trae saw all options is what led to the turn around (IMHO).
  5. If you wanna make money in Vegas this year, consider this. The Hawks took 34 games to come together and coalesce last year with multiple new pieces (Clint was essentially new, Gallo, Bogi, Rondo) and no real training camp, just 4 preseason games. The Vegas projections, "expert opinions" are not taking into account Nate gets a full offseason, full training camp, the benefit of the post season appearance. The Hawks played at a 71% clip under Nate last year. That translates to a 58 win total. They also should consider we won't be as injured this season. Projecting 47.5 really seems like a suckers bet.
  6. Maybe a more accurate correlation is how we were under experienced under LP, undermanned and got similar results. To be fair, LP was pretty undermanned to start last season. Folks were dropping like flies.
  7. 100% on your side but in a world where a hurricane is bearing down on Florida....to me its meh not .
  8. Like I said, he stated a projection and now he has to live with it. John Collins 5 games summer league rookie year in 23 MPG. 15.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 1APG, .8 SPG, .6 BPG, 59.3 FG% Jalen Johnson through 3 games at 28 MPG. 17 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 1.7APG, .3 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 56.4 FG% Basically Johnson is Collins so far in summer league. less than 3% FG% difference. JC was 3 months older when he played his first season of summer league. As the game progresses, depth usually wins out. I'm not concerned about it.
  9. is vs will be....it is different but I'm not sure something to get your feathers in a ruffle over today. JJ is going to be better than his draft slot (IMHO) by quite a bit.
  10. IMHO our top 3ish guys are as good as anyone else's but the other teams' summer league squads are deeper than us. Many have multiple 2nd year players. Lets remember our #1 pick from last year (OO) isn't playing and things would be vastly different if he were. All we have playing is last year's #50 overall pick and a bunch of never sniff the nba'ers playing with Mays, Cooper and JJ. Here is the roster, no center on the list: Atlanta Hawks Summer League Roster Jalen Johnson, F Sharife Cooper, G Skylar Mays, G Jeremiah Martin, G Justin Jaworski, G Ibi Watson, G Max Heidegger, G DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell, F Admiral Schofield, F Nahziah Carter, G Eric Moreland, F Juwan Durham, F Javin DeLaurier, F Jordan Bell, F A.J. Lawson, G
  11. I have two walnuts. I have 1 walnut and 1 peanut. I have 2 peanuts. I still have 2 nuts (ba dum bump...tssss). They aren't the same nuts but they're still nuts. Leaning toward, if I put a water balloon to your head, had to call it now...is a bust is still saying you believe bust. I understand you aren't saying is and that you're saying if forced to make a call he "will be" but still a pretty crazy thought considering he's a 17/10 guy right now in 28 minutes at 19 years old and was taken at 20. If it were me (and it wasn't), I might have said something like "still a bit too early to tell, lets see what happens." But you went there and threw out the label. Prepare for shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. First 3 games as a pro for the 20th pick, 28 minutes, 17.0 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 56.4% fg%, while the team runs everything through other players to decide if they're worth offering a g league deal to. The per 36 = 21.85, 13.24, 1.67. I think anyone would take that from the 19 year old 20th overall pick. If those are motor questions, man I can't wait till he gets that motor tuned up.
  13. This is a well thought out, salient point with little to no sarcasm or cartoon drawings. You're growing as a person. I'm proud of you.
  14. early extensions are almost always a discount or a max deal.
  15. GMs will be fired over this year's draft. Book it.
  16. I'm thinking we're going to have a few load management games and a few blow out 4th quarters this year. The rooks will get some run.
  17. "Mark this podcast and watch them be 300 yards up Atlanta's butt in 2 years when this works out well." And a stark reminder that comment only got 3 likes at the time. Thank you @turnermx, @hazer and @PSSSHHHRRR87 for seeing the future with me.
  18. Good news is I was calling Dennis names 4 years ago and offered to help pack his bags on the way out the doors. Someone on the board called me a racist....true story. A revisit of this thread is probably called for.
  19. Jalen looks phenomenal on the boards and in the open floor, but watching the game, his defensive awareness is going to need a lot of work. He played everything like he was in a zone. On the wing, I saw him lose his man by no less than 15 feet. He was playing 10 to 10 and his man drifted to the other zone and he was headed toward the wrong corner.
  20. So it all began with me introducing him to my dogs and saying this one is big and clumsy but really smart. This is one is little, very sweet but she's a little stupid. Seems that someone's pre-k class has identified stupid as one of the worst things you can possibly say about anyone, including dogs. To which I was ratted out for saying worse on the internet and I got a lecture on the importance of using our nice words and that if I couldn't do that, MeeMaw would take my computer time away.
  21. I just saw that....they tightened up the structure. That is going to help a ton in 4-5 years.
  22. Summer league the talent level across the board is better and much closer to the pros. Especially for your rookies you are usually competing against 2 other players who were rookies the last year and have 1 year of NBA play under their belt. Since the G league the level of play in the summer has tightened...especially defensively.
  23. Out In Bruno -> Dieng Goodwin -> Cooper Snell -> Johnson Dunn -> Wright Knight -> Roster slot. How much do these moves really improve or drop our point differential per game?
