  1. It is the first time seeing them with a 3 second rule and having to run pick n' roll to free themselves up. Way more cutting, more 3 man basketball. There are a lot of high draft picks that struggle with the mental aspect of the NBA game. In college, there are always 2 dude on the floor just heads and shoulders better than everyone else and 2 dudes that probably should be on the bench. In the pros, even 10th man can play. I mean throw Solo into a college game and he probably goes for 30 now. Its just different. This is a good showcase for who can take that step. When a lot of guys get big points in summer league, its on volume shooting. Jalen was an efficient 8/12, 1/2 from 3. That does show something.
  2. You and I were talking about how long Sengun was gonna last because in my head, it was a foregone conclusion JJ was going in the top 10. I completely forgot about him. I'm sitting on the couch with my wife (who was quite annoyed with me interrupting her watching man children kiss their mamas) when they started saying he could go to us with this pick. I start going through the draft order and was like, "hey didn't he go already? He's not available is he?" Everyone I was hoping for at that pick was a distant memory. I was like "Holy Snot! How is he still available? We don't need him but Holy Snot" Disclaimer...Camp did not say snot but I am currently grounded from cursing on the internet from using that kind of language. My grandson just visited and I was quickly given a list of words I have to stop saying and "stupid" is on the list right before that other S word. He says I'm allowed to type on the internet as long I avoid all of the classic bad words and all of the new ones.
  3. chiming in on this thread. Maybe the most important things being missed about the Hawks are the values from: 1) being another year older, closer to their player primes. 2) the value of that playoff experience (knowing how to close games). 3) Starting the year with a Nate McMillan led training camp. 4) Having the respect now to get the benefit of the whistle. I don't care what other teams improved this off season with moves. These things are just as valuable.
  4. Its a lost art in today game for a big to take his man off the dribble. That's the thing that stands out for me. He can score at all 3 levels and can penetrate. I think the last big I saw who could really do that was KD. Not saying he's KD but really, how many bigs do you know that can post up, shoot from range and penetrate off the drive/create their own shot?
  5. After 1 game, JJ is 8th in points scored, 8th in rebounds. The summer league features players chosen over the last 2 years.
  6. You are 100% full correct. I'm still thinking like we're in 20-21
  7. There is nothing imminent. No worries.
  8. He was also traded before the season ended so technically he didn't make the playoffs that partial year in Houston but Houston did.
  9. CBAFAQ - http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q74 74. Can incentives be built into a contract? How do they apply to team salary? "There are three categories of allowable incentives: performance, academic/physical achievement, and extra promotional. The latter two categories are always included in the player's salary and team salary amounts. Performance incentives are classified as either "likely to be achieved" or "not likely to be achieved," with only the likely incentives included in the player's salary and team salary amounts. The determination of whether an incentive is likely or not likely is based on whether the criterion was achieved in the previous season. For example, if a player had seven assists per game the previous season, then an incentive based on seven assists per game would be classified as likely to be achieved, but one based on eight assists per game would be classified as not likely." So I'm not 100% sure but lean toward it being Salary but not counted against the cap based on the above FAQ. His team changed and that team did not make the playoffs the previous year, making it a "not likely to be achieved" event. But the team made the playoffs sparking the bonus. Therefore it would not count as team salary in this instance. His previous team made the playoffs but his current team didn't. He made the playoffs in both years but with separate teams. Per the writing, its a grey area but I would tend to lean it does not count against the team salary. Feel free to find something that says otherwise. He still gets paid but the bonus doesn't count in the calculation because it was no likely to be achieved in Atlanta per the definition of "did it happen the previous year".

These teams pay a penalty for each dollar their team salary exceeds the tax level. From 2002 to 2013, if a team exceeded the luxury tax threshold, they must pay one dollar to the league for every dollar that they are over the limit. 14. 3.4 million room more than we stated because JC's deal is inflationary
  15. JJ can play offensively right now...but he's gonna need some time to guard on the wing. I'm not expecting him to get major minutes for at least 20 games. I could be wrong. He has to climb over JC, Gallo, Hunter, Reddish, Huerter for minutes. He's a great athletic prospect but there is a learning curve.
  16. That felt a lot like when you 4 year old asks you, "Dad, how many stars are in the sky" and you could put it out there but decide to say more than a million hoping he'll be quiet and go back to sleep. Giving the correct answer will just lead to 87 more questions.
  17. I shutter to put this out there as I type it, but theoretically if we were so inclined $ 39,344,900. Which we are not.
  18. A side note here. We are not hamstrung to a vet min or 5.9 MLE if we resign Lou. Lou is ours and we can use whatever we want to retain him.
  19. Adjusted for John's salary per the AP of $21.6 million for 21/22. Signed/offered John Collins $21,600,000 Danilo Gallinari $20,475,000 Bogdan Bogdanovic $18,000,000 Clint Capela $17,103,448 Delon Wright $8,526,316 Trae Young $8,326,471 De'Andre Hunter $7,775,400 Onyeka Okongwu $6,104,280 Cam Reddish $4,670,160 Kevin Huerter $4,253,357 Gorgui Dieng $4,000,000 Jalen Johnson $2,659,680 Solomon Hill $1,669,178 Skylar Mays $1,489,065 Total (14 under contract): $5.9 MLE left. $126,652,355 Holds Lou Williams $15,200,000 Unsigned/waiting Shariffe Cooper

  21. Honestly I would say don't worry your pretty little head about it. Next season's cap number will be revised once more based on revenue. I believe Sportrac is just working off a cap estimate so results may vary.
  22. I looked at a possible extension of Kevin as well and stuck it 5/75 starting at 13 mil per season starting next year. Perfectly fits the cap numbers I stated earlier today.
  23. I'm probably as high as anyone on the draft picks this year but specifically Jalen. I'll feel better after a few summer league game if he shows out but in my convoluted self GM plan, I see them gauging Jalen at the trade deadline and decide if its okay to trade away Gallo at that time. If he isn't what they think he is right away, they hold Gallo till the end of the season and refocus their efforts next draft/off season.
  24. Sometimes I outthink myself on these things but does anyone else think the best parts of Trae/JC signings is they can feel secure in mentoring JJ and Cooper? Like, does this help with the rooks' progress as well?
