  1. This all depends on the order the deals are processed. We have holds but once we start signing players, we will need to process the small contracts first. My guess is Dieng's is processed first at no exception. Then JC's, then on our last 2 players we use the 3 mil BAE and NT-MLE. Those become available after we break the cap. Any non JC contract should be processed first as it won't require an exception. I'm waiting until we get some word on JC's contract before I state what we have and how slow to the LT we are. The Dieng signing was a good bargain and gives us LT room to play and possibly use all of the remaining exceptions.

  3. I'm wondering what effect the Olympics is going to have on next year. Many of the best players in the league are missing out on a month of rest and repair. Wondering how that will affect the start of the season and potentially seeding with the obvious injuries that will come out of it.
  4. Yah, don't sleep on the Jazz or Nuggets.
  5. Remember, teams will process their own free agents last so the technically have that space still.
  6. Yes up to 8%, I was just trying to keep it closer, simpler. Remembering the cap number goes up every year (or in years we aren't shut down from pandemics). So as his salary is decreasing, the cap is rising creating that extra space to sign everyone.
  7. Most rumoring to the press has some good faith stipulations on it. Like not releasing it before time "x,y,z" to avoid accusations of tampering. But mark my words, after 6PM, stuff will get specific, really fast.
  8. To @NBASupes point, If the Hawks gave him more today and peeled a few percent off of his deal every year, it would be friendlier in 2 years when signing Cam/Hunter. Something like this at $124 million but much friendlier cap wise in season 3,4,5: This is possible and if I were Travis I might try to sell JC on this as he'd get his money earlier in the deal. Backward scaling to limit the impact years 3/4. Doing so would also make it easier to trade him down the road as it would be team friendly. 2021-22: $ 27,000,000 96% 2022-23: $ 25,650,000 -5% 2023-24: $ 24,300,000 -5% 2024-25: $ 22,950,000 -5% 2025-26: $ 24,300,000 5%
  9. They had eyes for Kuzma before the Lakers sent him to Washington, and could jump back in if he’s available again. Another possible name for the Wolves: Danilo Gallinari. 3 hours ago – via John Hollinger @ The Athletic Trade, Danilo Gallinari, Kyle Kuzma, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards Woj is still pushing Gallo to Minny and that's not the only place I'm hearing that.
  10. Speaking of being 19 and athletic. Just came across this 19 year old video of Giannis. I forgot how skinny he was when he was drafted. Crazy looking at him now.
  11. One of my favorite parts of his game is the distance he closes with 2 steps. When in the open floor, he picks up the dribble at the 3 point line and is dunking after 2 strides. This guy in transition is terrifying.
  12. No hops? The NBA comparisons for Jalen have been Aaron Gordon or pre-injury Rudy Gay. He registered a 37 inch vertical. Josh was 39.5. Basically, the kid is very strong, loves to go right at the basket. He's a power forward body with SF speed and athleticism. He's a nightmare cover in today's nba where lots of 4's are either lean shooters or thick rebounders. The kid is both. that is my only concern...I'm with you there.
  13. Most of that production is terribly skewed as he was playing hurt. The 2 games he wasn't hurt were NBA stat lines of 20+/15+/7. The foot is the one thing that bothers me and that it wasn't disclosed what the foot issue was.
  14. I get your grade. I think its 100% wrong but I get it. Jalen is (IMHO) the best prospect in the draft. I was so sure he going top 10 despite the negative press, I forgot he was on the board. Revisit your thoughts after summer league. He is just too strong for these other 19 year olds he's going to be going up against.
  15. Bump with reminders on dates. Today is August 2. Negotiations can begin tonight at 6 PM our time (ET). Expect to start hearing legit rumors after that time. The two-day period for matching an RFA offer sheet signed during the moratorium begins. August 8-17 Las Vegas Summer League (link).
  16. We have 2 barrels full of future assets. There was no reason we couldn't jump up and take both. Queta is the perfect bench big. Solid post D, shot blocker, long, some offense, can pass out of the post. Won't dazzle you or shoot from 3 but you really don't need that 12 minutes a night. Just need a solid interior player to stop other teams from going on runs.
  17. up or down 8% per season in the NBA. you can go more then slowly decrease but you can't front load with a bonus or pay 20 mil season 1 and 5 mil season 2 on the same contract. You are correct. The yearly difference is 8%. Also, lets institute a new rule. You can't take anything I say as gospel between the hours of midnight and 10 AM. I need to wake up before I start spouting numbers.
  18. I've got him slotted at 12 -15m starting next year. Biggest issue with Kevin is he hasn't sniffed 40% from 3 yet except for a month last year. If he improves his long range consistency this off season and breaks above 40%, now we have a problem. Kevin's defense was really good late last year but it was only useable against 2's/3's. He lacks the foot speed and raw strength of Hunter to guard 1-4. But if he breaks up past 40%, now you're talking about someone throwing 18-20m a season to him next year and that complicates things. The other thing is we have 2 seasons to answer the durability questions on Hunter/Reddish. We can't pencil in their money until they prove they can play a full season.
  19. cough, cough, Queta......oh yah we passed on him.
  20. We're gonna finish with a salary of 125 to 130ish. That's why he's worried. He would like to keep the other 3 players pushing us there (Clint, Gallo, Bogi) as long as we can. There have been media reports of us giving up on one of the 5 (Trae, JC, Reddish, Hunter, Huerter). If we keep all 3 of the first 3, we would have problems keeping the last 5. He's seeing the future. Supes is much more of a talent, rumors guy and has been getting up to speed on the cap stuff in the last year. His concerns are valid though still a new realm for him to be thinking of so he may not be able to see every angle like Jaybird, myself, Sturt and a few others on the board. He's much more of "how they all fit" guy and not a "how they all fit under the cap guy" but to his credit, he's made an effort the last year + to learn that stuff. This isn't the stuff you casually learn in a year. The CBA is a complicated mess and I'll admit I don't like reading it. We have a few lawyers on the board and they don't like reading it, because its that long. There's some reading a few pages back and in the salary cap thread on this. Sturts' got a spreadsheet and I have Summary sheet that show why he (Supes) is expressing concern.
  21. One thing in our favor here, John already has a number of local endorsement deals in place.
  22. The offseason, especially post playoffs, usually involve the coaches looking at what you did well or not and then give you a game plan. The team can't mandate things in the off-season (official team activities) but they still stay in contact with players and work with them on things they want them to work on in the off-season. Many teams will find (and in some cases pay for) players to get specialized work in the areas of weight training, handles, post up games, shooting coach etc... After the season ends, the coaches do a ton of film work, hire consultants to help review tape, make suggestions and the like. Players usually get time off following the season and take vacations with their families or let their bodies repair (usually 2-4 weeks) and then will check in with their team and have 1 on 1's either in person with their agents with the team/coaches. Its at this time the team will provide feedback, areas they would like them to work on and provide preferred resources if need be. Every team's rules are different for off-season check ins and many coincide with drug testing, mandatory physicals, etc. For each of the last 2 off-seasons, JC has been asked to work on his body and outside shooting. I tend to believe lower body weight training, ball handling, decision making and passing out of the post will be his team suggestions this off season. Lets try to remember he is still just 23 and will turn 24 at the start of training camp. 25 years ago, age 23 would have been his rookie season.
  23. TBH, my concern isn't with the salaries right now or the contract lengths, its with us not taking a center to develop this year for when after Clint's contract is up in 2 years. Either OO's your guy and you need his backup or OO's a F/C and you need a starter/backup. I'm wondering if in free agency we don't take one to develop and one to play.
  24. Tequila and cell phones don't mix.
  25. These are the numbers for $120k. I'm thinking its closer to $130.5k (see previous post) and I think the 5th year is going to be a player option. 2021-22: $20,690,000 2022-23: $ 22,345,200 2023-24: $ 24,000,400 2024-25: $ 25,655,600 2025-26: $ 27,310,800 Total - $ 120,002,000
