Premium Member Diesel Posted September 13, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 13, 2005 Donta Smith, Jason Collier for Mark Blount... If this move is still possible after we get Batista, we should get Blount. I am no fan of Blount, but I am a fan of 7'0ers. I think he'd be a nice project to have. Once Boston trades Pierce, they will have more of the youth movement.. But they get Nene. I think with Lafrentz and Nene.. there's absolutely no need for Blount, plus, they would want to resign LaFrentz...
Dragitoff
What need would they (or anyone else) have for Collier if they don't need Blount?
Packfill
Blount's contract is too large for his level of production, so I would pass as he is not really an upgrade over Zaza. I have to admit I was wrong about Blount - I wanted the Hawks to sign him last off-season. Good thing I am not GM.
ColombianBaller
Mark Blount did last year what is common among NBA players. He played very well on his contract year and once he got his new, much bigger, contract he didn't perform as well. Yup....I'm glad we didn't get him. Weez
once Boston trades Pierce...again I say...you want to put money on that happening in the next four months?
Moderators macdaddy Posted September 14, 2005 Moderators Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 I can't see why any team would trade anything for Donta and Collier. What are they getting out of the deal?
Nicholasp27
noooo to blount his contract is horrid i'll take zaza/batista/edwards for now and zaza/andersen/batista next year...if doesn't pan out, we can look to get a real center (read: not blount) when we are ready to contend
OGRat
Throw me in that boat as well. I was really surprised by his lack of production last year.
Premium Member Diesel Posted September 14, 2005 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 Capspace next year. Collier will be a free agent in the summer. Donta is a renewable 2 yr deal. They get out of Blount's contract is what they get plus they get a prospect in Donta.
Premium Member Diesel Posted September 14, 2005 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 Blount is set to make 5.5 million this year. That's cheap when you consider he's a 7 footer who can block shots. I don't know what you guys expect in exchange for Collier/Donta? I mean... the deal is certainly fair. You will get no other 7 footer for less. In short, Blount is a big man, shot blocker. He's Theo with a small contract. In fact, he compares relatively favorably with Theo... I just think he'd be a good project to have off the bench.. Another Nazr like player except, he's more defensive than offensive... I would love to see us lineup with: JJ, JC, JS, AL, MB on opening night.
Nicholasp27
we don't need that 5.5 mil salary, especially if we keep al and extend him and i don't wanna give up donta yet...he may end up being one of the better players on our team in a few years... Premium Member Diesel Posted September 14, 2005 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 We don't need the contract but we need the player!!! Our middle is as soft as a twinkie... We were willing to give Heartless Curry close to the max... but we won't trade for a player making the MLE money?
Premium Member mrhonline Posted September 14, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 14, 2005 Boston would trade Blount's contract for a twinkie. It's not the price, but the length that was a huge mistake.
Packfill
My understanding is that Blount is soft as a twinkie too, so I doubt he would provide anything in the way of a defensive presence. I think alot of people over-value blocked shots and assume that if someone can block shots that they are a good interior defender. Theo is a good example, great weak side shot blocker but did not offer much in the way of man-up post defense. Deke on the other hand, could block shots, but he was also a very good post defender, which made him much more valuable - and is why he can continue to play in the NBA even though he is 67.
