exodus
We can all agree that we need a pg and we have beaten to death who the Hawks should draft. Now let's see some plausible trade scenarios to get a pg with some experience. I can only think of one that I like right now. The Bulls have 2 first round picks. They probably want a scoring 4 more than anything. Anyone think they would trade Hinrich and one of their picks for a top 3 pick? I would love to see Hinrich here. Packfill
Out of the point guards that may become available during this season, I think the guy to target is Speedy Claxton. He can run a team and can handle 4th quarter pressure - remember when he was in San Antonio he usually closed the game over Parker (albeit Parker was younger). He has been solid wherever he plays but has never truly been given the opportunity to be the guy. Not sure what it would take to get him, but if the team is still rudderless come midseason I would consider some combination of Childress (because at that point we should know whether he will return to his form of last season or whether he will just be a back-up to Williams/Smoove/Johnson/etc.), Lue, Delk, Donta, second round pick. BeeSwatter
What about Earl Watson, he appears to be the odd man out in Denver already. I'm not sure if I would want him or not. I don't know what kind of contract he signed with Denver but he would be an upgrade over Lue
Premium Member Diesel Posted November 17, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 17, 2005 I also support getting Speedy Claxton. However, only after getting Rondo in the draft. I think next off-season should be busy.. This is how it should be done: IN Feb, with the coaching change (if there is one, I want Frank Johnson)... Trade: Ty Lue/2nd to the Lakers for Sasha Vujacic & Stanislav Medvedenko I like this trade because Medvedenko is in the last year of his contract and it gets us out of Lue's contract. Phil Jackson Likes Lue. Vujacic is a nice project. He's not doing much right now but that's alright... We play Vujacic and Royal for the rest of the season. In the offseason, we draft Rondo. Then in FAcy, we go after Speed Claxton. We resign Al and Maybe Medvedenko... Maybe. I think Claxton is a guy who can supplement our offense until Rondo is ready. He isn't a good passer and turns it over too much. Plus he doesn't shoot well. He is a good defender though. I wouldnt mind having Claxton at a reasonable price. unknownjdb
Speaking of getting a PG here, I've come to the conclusion that we are debating the wrong player to trade for. I'm satisfied with Chillz, Smith and/or Williams coming off the bench and Johnson and Harrington will continue to be solid. From this day forth, my number one trade bait on the Hawks shall be... dun-dun-da-DUN... Tyrone Lue. Today I looked through a few of the losing teams in the league and came across the Bulls. I wonder if they would be willing to trade Jannero Pargo and Malik Allen for Lue. Both of these players look pretty productive (stat-wise) in the minutes they play: Pargo is a 6'1" PG with 5 pts. 3 asts. 2 brds. 1 stl. with around 1.5 TOs in just 15 mins. and Allen is a 6'10" PF with a career avg. of 7 pts. 4 brds. and almost a blk in 20 mins. These aren't fabulous numbers but I'd be willing since they are both relatively young. We could start Salim and have Pargo and Ivey back him up. I'd like Hinrick, but I doubt Chicago would want to take any combo of the players we'd be willing to trade. Still, if they would take Lue, Delk, a future 2nd and some cash, I'd be willing. PG - Hinrick / Salim / Ivey SG - Johnson / D.Smith SF - Childress / J.Smith PF - Harrington / Williams / Allen C - Zaza / Edwards / Batista That's a pretty strong fundamental starting line. Nicholasp27
lue is definitely our #1 best option to trade delk is another i don't support trading any of our young guys unless we get something good back...not trading chill/smoove/marvin for other teams' scraps i'd love to get rid of 'i only pass to guarded men' lue

Lue is bird poop. He is worthless in a trade. Getting Hinrick for anything short of Joe Johnson is a pipe dream. I would trade Smoove or Marvin for him if the Bulls would do it, but they wouldn't. unknownjdb
I agree that we are MORE than unlikely in getting Hinrick, that was a pipe dream of sorts. What I'm really wondering is if you'd be willing to trade lue for these other two backups and allow Salim to start. PG - Salim / Pargo / Ivey SG - Johnson / Delk / D.Smith SF - Childress / J.Smith PF - Harrington / Williams / Allen C - Zaza / Edwards / Batista The main thing is to allow more time for the development of our "small" guards. Who knows, with more playing time Pargo could be a diamond in the rough for us. Allen is just an extra body underneath that might end up being pretty productive. GST
The descriptions I've seen of Earl Watson sound a lot like Royal Ivey, and right now Royal is holding down the end of the bench.
Nicholasp27
the diff is that earl is a name so woody would play him, like he does lue earl or ivey would both be much better than lue, but woody wont play ivey so we can bring in earl who will get played
Final_quest
Wow, I don't see how the Hawks can bring in a PG without getting rid of one of our own. We have Lue, Delk, Salim, JJ, and Ivey. Granted not all of those guys play PG exclusively, but we'd have to at least send Ivey to the developmental league. This is very sad, but we could really use Tony Delk in the games right now.
