There is an advantage to mid-season firings especially if the players aren't listening anymore. But, the point is that you can give a new coach a chance as 'interim' and if you don't like him then its no big deal to change again in the offseason. If we hire that same guy in the offseason then you really are locked in for at least a year or two to give him a chance. Granted you're not really give the interim coach a chance with just half a season but its a great tryout.
