thesheedera
Now that the Paul hype machine has begun, what happens if he never wins a championship? Seems like your requirement for a top 2 pick is that it leads your team to a championship, and nothing less will do. Now people think he's the next Isaiah, what if he's only the next Stephon Marbury? What happens then?
Premium Member Diesel Posted February 3, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 That's old news... It's all about Marvin here on Hawksqauwk.. I thought you would be happy Theshedara... I thought you and Marvin were Playground buddies?? Why is it when the conversation is about Marvin you want to talk about Paul? We have missed that Ship; let's see how our boat rides?? What do you have Chrispaulenvy??
DJlaysitup
Quote: Let's trade Al so that Marvin can flop!! That's my new stance... I honestly would not be surprised if this isn't a concern of management and a reason they won't trade AL now. Granted he's young and deserves more time before being thrown to the wolves full-time, so they are probably doing the right thing...
Premium Member Vol4ever Posted February 3, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 Stoudamire is not the size of a center either and neither is Dwight Howard. I think Marvin will be an outstanding PF. He has the quickness and wingspan to play inside and he will only get stronger. The future for Marvin is bright and as soon as Al is gone you will see him develop even more.
Premium Member Diesel Posted February 3, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 Help me understand this. Marvin was in the same class as Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, and Telfair... He's not that young. Gerald Green and Marvin Webster are young. Let Marvin start. It's embarrassing that every rookie drafted under Marvin is playing in the rookie challenge and Marvin is talking about using that for motivation NEXT YEAR. thesheedera
Just for the record, here are the ages of the guys you mentioned. Marvin's the second youngest of them all. Al Jefferson - January 4, 1985 Sebastian Telfair - June 9, 1985 Josh Smith - Dec. 5, 1985 Dwight Howard - Dec. 8, 1985 Gerald Green - January 26, 1986 Marvin Williams - June 19, 1986 Martell Webster - December 4, 1986 Funny you mention Al Jefferson like he's heads and shoulders better than our (not yours) Marvin Williams. In his second year he's averaging 8.4 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Not exactly lighting it up. I would say he's still a very promising young prospect who has a lot of learning and growing up to do. What do you say? Bum? Green's older than Marvin and hasn't stepped on the floor yet, what a bum, he'll never be any good. Since when is your entire value determined by your first half of a season????????????
thesheedera
They are ALL young. Some develop immediately, some take a little time.

So far...absolutely. I wish we had him, but that isn't going to make me cast off any of our players because they aren't him. And I'm not convinced that he'll be a hall of famer like the entire country seems to be. He still has to prove he can lead his team to title town, right? And just so you know, I will always bring up Deron every time you start bad mouthing Marvin or yanking on Paul's jock. Deal? Good.
Premium Member Diesel Posted February 3, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 I do have kids and I have expectations of them too. It's when you have no expectations of your kids that they turn out to be butterfly artist and gas station attendants.

KB21
Marvin Williams is a better athlete than Jamal Mashburn could ever dream of being, and his upside is that of a healthy, more athletic version of Jamal Mashburn.

Premium Member Diesel Posted February 3, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 3, 2006 Quote: Jamal Mashburn finished his UK career as one of the all time greatest Wildcat players. He finished his career leading the Wildcats to their 1st final four since 1984, and ended up the #4 leading scorer in UK history. Mashburn is a jack of all trades. At 6'8", 235, he can play either inside or outside. Inside, he has a variety of moves, a la Kevin McHale, with all sorts of head fakes and turnaround moves. He can be virtually unstoppable in the low post, especially against smaller and weaker players. If that isn't enough, he can take his game outside, where he can easily stroke the college 3-pter, and I wouldn't be surprised if his range could extend to the NBA 3-pt line. He can score from a set shot, he can score posting up, and he can score off the dribble. He is an excellent ball-handler. Rick Pitino himself calls him the prototype small forward in the NBA. Mashburn is a tough one-on-one task for any defender. Not too many weaknesses on this 1st-team all-american, however, he always has been noted for a lackadasical attitude, and is prone to "falling asleep" during games. Doesn't really have that take-over attitude. Mashburn also has been accused of not really being able to jump, and he doesn't block many shots. He is an average defender at best, according to Pitino. However his versatility is very well suited to today's NBA game, and expect him to be one of the 1st 3, if not the 1st player picked in the 1993 draft. KB21
You just proved my point. Marvin brings everything to the table, relative to skill set, that Jamal Mashburn brought to the table, and Marvin adds elite level athleticism and super length to the equation. Marvin also put up the greatest freshman per 40 minute numbers in North Carolina history, so he can be considered one of their best players of all time.
