Premium Member Diesel Posted February 9, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 9, 2006 During the Piston's game, they talked to Woody about playing Delk. Woody said something to the effect that we want to get him in practice and see if he's able to go. He made it sound like Delk has been injured all this time and that he couldn't play up to his standard.. However, I thought the Doctors released Delk for play a long time ago and we were just letting Salim, Ivey, and Lue get the minutes at PG. I'll tell you what. If Delk is healthy, I'm sure that he will prove to be better than Salim and Lue...
BornandDieHawks
Listening to quotes from Delk he has been healthy for a while. I think the Delk situation goes deeper than the public know. Something behind the scenes put him in BK and Woody's doghouse. The paper has written Delk has been basically killing in practice but he still was not activated. I am waiting to hear the real story.
Nicholasp27
why are we still speculating about this? they've already said that they've chosen to sit delk so slim could get more minutes...there is no mystery about this situation he's been better for awhile but hasn't played due to slim...as for the shape part, they just mean he has to get into game shape, which is different than practice shape and will take a few games to adjust
exodus
The Hawks may have "encouraged" delk not to pick up his player option for this year. When he did it anyway, they decided to sit him. I dont know if that is what happened but it is possible.
Lascar78
I think that that can safely be assumed. Whether or not they actually discoraged him, I think it's pretty obvious that they didn't want him to take his player option. He did, he gets the money, but we don't have to play him Whether we should be playing or not is a different question. But we don't owe him. This is a business

Premium Member Diesel Posted February 9, 2006 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 9, 2006 After reading the article earlier, I think what makes sense is that BK doesn't want Delk playing and Woody did. I think Delk was probably being punished because he picked up his player's option. He took the money against BK's wishes. Delk still practices. He's probably been killing them in practice like the article said.. But he was probably off limits for Woody because of the WRATH of BK.. It's sad really. We have gone through half of the season almost with Delk on the bench in street clothes... Able to play but not allowed to play. I hope Delk lights up Seattle offensively and defensively. I believe this is probably his last hoorah with us. I would like to see him go out in a blaze of Glory. and if he's traded, maybe he will get us something good in return and maybe he won't burn us too bad when we see him again. KB21
Yeah. That makes sense. Let's play Tony Delk on a developing team instead of young players like Royal Ivey and Salim Stoudamire, who need the playing time to develop their games properly. Premium Member Diesel Posted February 9, 2006 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted February 9, 2006 You act as if we only have 12 minutes to split between Ivey, Salim, and Delk... Wake up. Ivey is no more a part of the future of this team as Delk is. This is just a plain grudge gone bad. In fact, if you don't want Delk on this team, you should be applauding his playing time. At least this way, he gets showcased for a trade?
Nicholasp27
a) ivey may be a future part of this team for a long, long time he very well could end up being our backup pg for many years b) delk will be traded or let go before the playoffs this year anyway; unless playing him is gonna get us some great piece that we wouldn't have gotten without playing him, then we shouldn't be playing him
Traceman
the season started. It was no secret. There was no conspiracy. Lue and Ivey bring something different to the table whereas Salim and Delk do virtually the same thing. Remember, JJ was brought here to be our PG. Lue was resigned to be JJ's primary backup at PG. Ivey was to be the developmental 3rd PG/defensive specialist who wasn't expected to play much. Salim was drafted as a combo guard who could shoot (same thing as Delk). Bottom line, when Salim proved himself in the summer leagues and training camp and then we signed JJ, Delk's days were numbered.
Lascar78
yeah, and I agree with it all the way. Where I find it weird though is that we have been suiting up less than 12 guys for quite a while now. If that's the case, I can see no reason not to suit Delk up. You can suit him up with the idea of not playing him, but at least have the option of using him if the opportunity comes up.
Traceman
he knows Woody would be tempted to play him over Salim at times. In addition, BK was probably afraid that Woody would have gone with a Zaza/Al/JJ/Delk/Lue lineup late in a lot of games to get vets on the floor. If I was in Woody's situation when we kept blowing all those 4th quarter leads, I might have done that a few times myself!
TheDude
i honestly don't care in the least why he didn't play...apparently there's some sort of soap opera going on and i don't watch soap operas...if it had been marvin or joe johnson, sure i'd care but delk? ahhh.. but i definitely cannot wait to see how he plays. Traceman
I won't be surprised at all if he comes in and gives us some great minutes. He has fresh legs and I KNOW he is anxious to play. Hopefully he will play well enough that someone will give us something of value for him.
Packfill
What is wrong with Delk is that he is not a good player. He is a dime a dozen undersized shooting guard.
