Premium Member mrhonline Posted March 8, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted March 8, 2006 Check out these guys' numbers in nine games since the All-Star break: Johnson - 23 pts, 9 assists, 3 rebs. Childress - 14 pts, 6 rebs., 2 assists Smith - 13 pts, 9 rebs. 4 assists, 4 blocks Marvin - 11 pts, 6 rebs. Pachulia - 10 pts., 7 rebs. Stoudamire - 10 pts. All of these guys are, to use Hollinger's wording, at least decent pros. Don't tell anyone, but I'm starting to become optimistic. If the Hawks can get anywhere near this level of production from the above players, and get decent production from their draft pick and the "cap space" player, they're going to make the playoffs next year. (FWIW, Al Harrington has been tremendous offensively since the Break: 22 pts, 7 rebounds).
Final_quest
I'm not ready to predict our numbers for next season, yet. We'll see how we finish the season, but we can say for the first time in a few years that the playoffs should be our goal.
Packfill
Those are good numbers no doubt but Al's production is hard to ignore. If he is not with the team next year it may take a month or two before the young guys are able to fill in that loss of production. If that happens, then a slow start could derail the team's playoff aspirations. That said, I think the team should have making the playoffs as their baseline goal for next season. Anything less would be a failure.
CBAreject
Here are my most realistic predictions Johnson - 32 pts, 12 assists, 8 rebs -- 30 triple doubles Childress - 22 pts, 9 rebs., 55% shooting Smith - 23 pts, 19 rebs. 4 assists, 8 blocks Marvin - 35 pts, 14 rebs, 5 assists, 45% 3 pt. Pachulia - 18 pts., 12 rebs, 3 blocks. Stoudamire - 15 pts, 4 3 pt'ers per game, 6 blocks Let me have it boys
RAHMOR
Quote: Stoudamire - 15 pts, 4 3 pt'ers per game, 6 blocks You must be f-ing crazy if you think Salim will average nearly as many block as Josh. Quote: Johnson - 32 pts, 12 assists, 8 rebs -- 30 triple doubles Only 30 triple-doubles for JJ. Out of 82 games, that's only 36.5% of the time. Hawks fans and their welfare mentality. Quote: Smith - 23 pts, 19 rebs. 4 assists, 8 blocks Jmoove is average 4 assists now, do you think he won't get any better. I have to say I'm disappointed in your "Forecast". You probably think we'll only win 50 games next year too.
tmac13
I think Salims block totals are way to low..I expect at least 9 blocks per game from Salim..I Also think Marvin will average at least 17 rebounds per game..Everthing else is about right..78-4 should be our record. CBAreject
Well, I think Salim *could* have better stats, but with the type of season I have Marvin putting up, it's difficult to get too many minutes at the wing positions. His blocks per 40 will easily be 10 or more.
Final_quest
I think he meant 6 blocks on the season. He has 3 this year so far. If he works hard in the offseason he could bring that number up.
DJlaysitup
I'd say the playoffs definitely should be our goal...but I don't see that as realistic with our inside game the way it is. Zaza, Batista, and whoever simply isn't good enough to compete solidly when the perimeter shots aren't falling just right. Pushing Pachulia's stats up to: "Pachulia - 18 pts., 12 rebs, 3 blocks." is a pipe dream IMHO...unless he grows 4 inches in the offseason.

gsuteke
i agree predicting win totals is impossible until you see who the hawks pick up in the offseason. the acquisition of 2 defensive stoppers to man the paint would allow the Hawks to keep Harrington on the floor and still lower the # of points given up. Harrington can succeed in Atlanta with the right players around him, however as of now Al Harrington = addition by subraction
Gray Mule
Harrington is not a great defender in the paint. I believe we all agree on that. However, he does some great defensive work on the outside. He has quick hands and is able to cause a lot of trouble, stealing the ball or causing the errant pass. He's not bad on the rebounds either. Just because he can't or doesn't stop the inside stuff doesn't mean he's not playing defense. We see the bad defense in close to the basket and forget all the things he does well. And, he can score some too!! He's got room to improve. But, he's still young. Just because he's one of our veterans doesn't mean he can't get better. CBAreject
Now, you're talking. Keep these *original* ideas a-comin' y'all Anyhoo, Nick...I think it's freaking hilarious how people are taking my CLEAR FARCE of a prediction so seriously. That's actually why I did it. I knew they would "let me have it", even if I made it clear I was being ridiculous...and I think that's so funny.
