DrReality
Big surprise: ajc.com > Sports > Hawks OWNERSHIP FIGHT No ruling on teams dispute The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 06/06/06 A ruling did not come Monday on estranged part-owner Steve Belkin's claim that he should be allowed to take over the Hawks and Thrashers. A Maryland judge, at a hearing Friday, said he would issue a written ruling on the matter Monday. But Judge Eric Johnson was tied up in a trial and delayed his ruling until at least today. Belkin (ENLARGE) In court Friday, Belkin's attorney, Jack Fabiano, argued that the team's other owners had "completely blown up" the timetables of their agreement to buy Belkin's stake, triggering his right to buy them out instead. An attorney for the other owners, Rob Remar, called Belkin's position "a tortured and unbelievable interpretation of the agreement" that would amount to "an unlawful forfeiture" of the teams. Friday, the judge said "the remedy could fall short" of what Belkin is seeking. The judge also said that "when we get through all the nuances of contract interpretation," the dispute comes down to money. — Tim Tucker
frosgrim
Of course it was delayed, there was no other option. This saga just gets stranger and stranger. On a more serious note. It sounded like the judge was leaning towards rulling in favor of the Atl/Washington groups and not Darth Belkin, but with this delay who knows. WraithSentinel
I was thinking today wouldn't it be funny if somehow the Judge wait until Tues to make his choice. Just given our sorry luck. I sure didn't expect it to actually happen. We truly are the unluckiest franchise in the NBA going right now.
Moderators AHF Posted June 6, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted June 6, 2006 Given that he was delayed by trial, the ruling might not even happen today. We'll see. I am optimistic from his comments last Friday that Belkin won't get control of the team and the ownership can't be dumb enough to put themselves in a position where he would in the future. He has already shown his cards in terms of trying to exploit the loopholes here.

I agree with this. The judge sounded like a common sense guy, realizing that the bottom line is that they need to figure a way out to get a dollar figure, but that belkin won't get the team. I am pretty confident the judge will rule in favor of the non-Belkin contingent but this is the type foreshadowing that makes things a little unsettling. Lascar78
ON THE OTHER HAND, it would only make sense that only on a day like 666 could things actually go right for the hawks!

WraithSentinel
Has anyone heard anything new? AJC has posted nothing yet. They usually wait until late-night to post any news. I felt with something this important. They would actually post something now instead of later.
