jezmund
These are the different principles I'm deciding between when thinking of a deal including Al: #1. I really want to get back into the 2007 Draft. Preferrably getting a pick that has a chance to be top 15 or so. #2. This kind of contradicts the last point, we are giving Phoenix our 1st next year if it isn't top 3 so WE MUST BE GOOD THIS YEAR. We have to move Al for a player that makes this team better. I will be sick if Phoenix gets like a top 8 pick from us. #3. Whoever this player is that might help us, I don't want him to have a long contract. This cancels out Jeff Foster and just about the whole Golden State team. I will say this, though, if acquiring a solid 2007 1st means having to take a contract too, then we need to take a player that has trade value so we can later move him. Troy Murphy probably has a lot more trade value than Jeff Foster, Adonal Foyle and Mike Dunleavy I'd imagine. The thing with Troy is that forwards is the least of our problem although he would fill the gap of post-scorer that Al would leave. So what do we do? On one hand I'd like to get a good pick in a very deep draft and on the other hand we HAVE to be good this year.
Johnnybravo4
The draft is only deep from 1-4 Oden Duran Young Noah Everyone else sucks.
Iman
We should go after Jamal Magloire and a 2007 first rounder. That will get us into the playoffs this year and still give us a pick and capspace during the offseason. Next year just go ahead and pay David Anderson whatever it takes to get him over here. I'd probably just take Magloire rather than some of these other deals for garbage or overpaid names.

jezmund
Maybe just being a GT homer but Thaddeus Young looks like the type of talent that I'd be willing to move Marvin Williams for to man the 3. I'm really excited about seeing him in Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
KB21
Foster's deal only has 3 years left on it, and he's cheap for the production we could get from him.

thesheedera
It ain't just hype, its a well known fact that next year's draft is both big on franchise player type star potential and good depth as well. To say its 4 deep is ridiculous.

What production, he would be our 3rd center behind Zaza and Landlord. He is not a defensive specialist. His career high in points scored is 19. 19! He is a stiff who can rebound..big deal. Not only that but we'd be paying 6 million per for a guy who avg 5/9. I swear Este could do that if we gave him 20 mpg.
jezmund
I agree. I'd PREFER (obviously you can't get everything you want) not to pick up a contract that is $6M+ for 3 more years for a back-up player. We drafted our rebounder off the bench in Shelden Williams. I'd add Hawes to that and Splitter - he can't chicken out again. Some pretty good centers in that group.
Johnnybravo4
The pick in question will be in the 20's. The draft will be top heavy but that is about it.
BusBoyIsBack
Quote: The draft is only deep from 1-4 Oden Duran Young Noah Everyone else sucks. Seriously, what the hell is with everyone just wanting to get a draft pick next year for the helluva it? Do they not realize that all the "can't miss" players will be long gone near the end of the lottery? After those 4 you have the big asian guy who pulled his name out of the draft along with Tiago Splitter and Alexis Ajinca. And that's about it. The guards look average and there are no more "can't miss" big men. If you think we are going to get a player of Al's caliber with a pick 15+ you are mistaken. We need to trade him for a player not a draft pick.

jezmund
But you can get a player that is 80% cheap than AL and have him waiting in the wings developing in case we can't resign all of our young guys.
