jerrywest
Quote: payton stockton johnson hardaway (tim and penny) srickland van exel kidd there were people with him and all of them had similar defensive abilities Only Payton was better defensively. Mookie would be above all else. Stockton was smart but not as good. Van exel & Timmy - comeon! Penny never played D. Kidd was a kid then. Strickland could have been as good as Mookie if he had his head screwed in right. Magic was never known for his D.
lunar
actually stockton was known for his defense as well. tim hardaway was good to in terms of D. kidd was also comparable. mookie was in the same boat as stockton, tim hardaway, j.kidd, strickland, and kevin johnson. payton was on three more levels. CBAreject
Mookie for Jason Terry was not a bad trade. Mook had 1 more good year, and JT had several good years for us. Mook had become such a bad shooter by then that we couldn't keep him anyway. JT brings bad connotations for many people, and I think it's because of the trouble he caused in trying to build around a small 2-guard. Most of that was because Babcock was an idiot, and he didn't want to draft Joe Johnson or get a ball-handling 2 to play with JT. He was fixated on the idea that JT was a 2-guard, and he obsessed over this "big PG" that he never could find (lol E-mail). In spite of Babcock's foibles, JT was and still is an effective, entertaining NBA player. Babcock just wasn't creative enough to build a team with him. Popeye
You guys took Smitty to seriously. He just said that he reminds him of MOokie when he gets those steals and he is right about that. But he never said that he reminds him of Mookie when he shoots or pass, so STEAL is a big word here.
