breaking news about Riley............

I was just driving to get lunch and was listening to 790thezone when they had on a miami sports beat writer to talk about Saban. He stated that his sources gave him breaking news that Riley is taking a leave from coaching that may be permanent. He claimed Riley is furious with the vets on his roster and thinks the vets have quit on him. Rothstein or even VanGundy could be assuming coaching duties for the rest of the year. The city of Miami certainly has some flaky coaches.

just reporting on what I heard on the radio from the beatwriter. I didn't know about the article but I don't recall the Miami beatwriter mentioning this either. Regardless it is abit strange Riley would be having the surgery now for injuries.

We'll see if he petitions the NBA to get the team's record expunged from his own statistics. Remember, Coach K is a leader who happens to coach basketball.

I heard the same thing on Cold Pizza this morning, referring to Riley being upset with his team.

Riley and the Heat: 13 - 17

Woody and the Hawks: 9 - 20

One is a championship level coach. The other is the perceived Hawks anti-christ.

Riley and Heat fans blame injuries and their vets not stepping up.

Hawks fans blame the coach, but not injuries and the youth of the team.

For greater analysis, though, you need to look at Riley's multiple rings and career track record and compare that against Mike Woodson's track record. Riley has earned the benefit of the doubt. Woodson hasn't so far. IMO, that is the reason for the difference in perception.
