Many hawks fans have little patience for developing young players into stars. Next time someone want to bad mouth young players too early, just point them to this thread. Hopefully this will slow down some repetitive bashing. I can argue with the same people with the same topic only so many times.

I went through 4 teams and found that most star players didn't blossom early. The teams are (Rockets, Suns, Blazers and Pistons). I stopped right there, because this is enough to make the point.

2nd year stat

TMac PPG-9.3, FG%-.436, Assists-2.3, Rebounds – 5.6

Nash PPG 9.1, Assists 3.4.

Diaw PPG 4.8 Assists 2.3

Zach Randolph PPG 8.4 Rebounds 4.4

Billup PPG 13.9 Asst 3.8

Age 22 stats

Yao PPG 13.5, Rebounds 8.2

Nash PPG 3.3, assists 2.1

Marion PPG 10.2 rebounds 6.6

Zach Randolph PPG 8.4 Rebounds 4.4

Hamilton PPG 9.0 Asst 1.5

Billup PPG 11.1 Asst 4.3

Tayshaun Prince PPG 3.3 Asst 0.6 Rebounds 1.1

Rasheed Wallace PPG 10.1 Reb 4.6

Age 26 stats

Nash PPG 8.6, Assists 4.9

Billup PPG 12.5 Asst 5.5

The point of the matter is:

None of the players mentioned were in the same situation as Marvin. Period.

None of them were #2 picks.

None of them played for these Hawks.

You can continue going case by case looking for an example to help your cause.

Funny though... You seem to ignore the other examples that fit as well:

Tim Thomas.

Joe Smith

Terry Mills

Mike Dunleavy

Rick Fox

Rodney Rogers

Silly Diesel. Whatever pick # they are, the point is - don't give up too early.

I will repost what I posted in another thread.

Marvin came back from injury and went 3-17(.176) for two games, and then got his rhythm back to shoot 47% in the next 7 games scoring 16.4 points.

On the 7th game Josh Smith stopped playing. Something else happened around that time. Marvin hurt his broken hand badly in one of those games. Can't remember which one. He kept playing through the pain.

In the last 10 games he is shooting only 31%.

Now, wise man Diesel. You want to predict a players entire career on those 19 games. You should become a fortune teller.

Here's an example that hits a little closer to home:

Joe Johnson, Year 2: 9.6 ppg, .397 fg, 3.2 rpg, 2.6 apg

Marvin Will, Year 2: 11.6 ppg, .366 fg, 4.7 rpg, 2.1 apg

Of course, no one is saying that Marvin will become JJ or Tracy McGrady, or Joe Smith, either. It's just that it's too early to tell one way or the other.

The thing that shocks me most about the JJ-Marvin comparison is the fieldgoal percentages for both these guys...below .400. It's easy to see why it was hard for the Celtics to imagine JJ as a 25 ppg scorer shooting nearly .500 from the field.

And keep in mind that if Marvin had been born a month or two earlier he would be a college sophomore right now instead of a junior. Plus he's only played 16 games this season at this point, and he's coming back from injury...so hopefully he'll get that shooting percentage up by the end of the season.

For every T-Mac you come up with, there is a Robert Traylor or Jonathan Bender or Kedrick Brown.

No, for every TMac there are FIVE Robert Traylors, or Kedrick Browns..

Kendrick Brown, Jonathan Bender or Truckter Traylor didn't play as good as Marvin. TMac, JJ, Nash etc. played worse than Marvin.

Patience. 10 games ago Marvin was averaging 16+ points with 47% Fg% for a 7 games stretch. Cut the guy some slack for his injury.

No they didn't. They just didn't get 32 minutes per game.

Most young players have to actually earn their minutes as opposed to having their playing time handed to them.
