Josh Smith's numbers

I remember early on before that draft people were talking about Josh Smith being a consideration with the 6th pick. Once he fell to 17 I thought drafting him was a no brainer, if for no other reason the local appeal after missing out on Dwight.

Local appeal is part of what he brought to the team but he was also someone who unexpectedly fell from a lottery pick to #17. The talent was the best reason to take him and he fits the profile of what BK wanted at that time, IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, that was the draft where Atlanta was one digit off on the lottery in getting the first pick. One digit away from possibly having both Josh Smith and Dwight Howard.

Yep. LAC got the second pick when we lost the coin flip with them and the number was one of theirs instead of one of ours. They traded the pick to Charlotte.

i remember them always saying that atlanta was going to get josh at 17. the only other player that would have stopped them from getting him was jameer nelson (who BK tried to get but was outbidded by orlando)

that was the one time i've ever wanted the hawks to lose. we were so close to having dwight and josh. i knew that the guys that were on the team weren't going to be here and they out of spite. o well
