ryandauwalker
After reading an ESPN Insider post and watching some of the All-Star coverage, David Stern seems like he is eager for the NBA to approve a franchise for Las Vegas. What the Insider post told me was a bit disconcerting when I thought about it. There was some interest for the Maloof brothers (who own casinos in Las Vegas) to have a franchise there. But the city of Sacramento really wants to keep their franchise, so they might sell and try to get a franchise for Las Vegas. It said that if a franchise were to be formed it would be an existing one. Stern said there were no ailing franchises, but a "struggling" franchise might be moved to Nevada. I cannot think of a situation in the NBA that is as terrible as ours in the front office. I hope that this is not the long-term situation for the Hawks as I realize if this were to happen, it would be a while. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index...ht&lid=tab1pos2 Opinions? hawksno1fan
I would hate for this to happen. I love the Hawks to be in Atlanta. The only positive thing I see coming from this, is that the Hawks will get people in seats.
vext
The Hawks are not moving from Atlanta, period. They may be "struggling" depending on your definition, but they are not moving. Atlanta has a strong basketball community and the team won't go anywhere. Look at CLT a few years ago, the ownership was not happy there and was allowed to leave. They got a team a couple years later simply because it is a good basketball town. Same thing for Atlanta. We may have had problems, but this is a basketball town. Ups, downs, it's life. Dallas could have easily lost there team back in the day and they are now great. That is how the game works. Hawks will be here forever.

BusBoyIsBack
Quote: Have you seen our attendance? How is Atlanta a good basketball town? Have you seen the ratings? I remember they said in the Spurs/Pistons Finals that after San Antonio and Detroit, the city that had the most people who watched the Finals was ATLANTA! This is a basketball city ready to explode. With all the musicians and celebrities that reside here, this could be the new LA if this team ever became good. In fact it will in two years if our players continue to progress which they should. Hoosier
Don't worry it is not going to be the Hawks movimg to LV. There is a rumor, however, that a certain EC team that is not struggling will be headed there after this season.
Lascar78
Exactly. Not to mention that our deal has us locked into atlanta for a long time so a move is not even possible. And any time Stern's been asked about it he's been very straightforward in saying that we're not going anywhere.
frosgrim
The city of Atlanta has the Hawks and Thrashers locked up in an iron clad deal. Second, the owners of the Hawks and Trashers own the operating rights to the arena. Moving the Hawks to LV would slash their own wrists in terms of income. Third, Atlanta will come to see the Hawks when they win consistently. The teams that seem to be ripe to move are: Kings- as mentioned the Maloofs are LV and they put together the All-Star weekend. Sonics- Stern has been griping about how bad the lease is for the team. Hornets- new owner wants them in OK city, but LV could offer a sweet deal. As for an EC team moving? NJ maybe? Might be a smart move on their part. Washington- newer arena so I am not sure they can leave. Philly, Boston, Knicks are all not moving Miami- Hmm, maybe... But the best bet: Orlando- LV might be a better place to keep FAs.
Johnnybravo4
There are plenty of teams that would move before us namely NOK, Memphis and Sacramento
Duff_Man
I would buy season tickets and go to as many games as possible if they moved to Vegas.

b3bawla
Yea, Atlanta is also one of the best stops on Moutin Dew's And 1 Tour. They always get a huge crowd.
