ncthompson11
What is the deal with this pick. How do we get this pick? I know we have to have a top 3 for the phoenix pick but not sure about indiana.
Gray Mule
Top 10 protected. That means, If Indiana gets a pick in this year's draft that is 10 or lower, they keep the pick. If the pick is above 10, then that pick goes to Atlanta. This pick comes to Atlanta as payment for Harrington. If Indiana keeps the pick, it is top 8 protected next year. Our other potential pick. If Atlanta gets one of the top three picks, we get to keep the pick. Otherwise, we looe it as part of the JJ deal and we get a first round pick next year. If we DO get one of the top 3 picks, we loose our first round pick next year, regardless of where it falls. Pay me now or pay me later - - That's the deal on both picks. bumpyphish1
However, we "know" that we have the Indy pick because at best, they finish tied for 11th place, so unless they or someone ranked even lower than them draws a top 3 pick, then the pick is ours. There is a 95% chance the Indy pick will be ours, if not better than that. Like the posts, Thompson, glad to add u to the board.

exodus
Top 10. Looks like the Hawks actually got lucky for a change.
bfwolf
The pick is still ours if someone with less balls than Indy gets a top 3 pick...that just pushes the Indy pick back in the draft...like from 11 to 12 or 12 to 13. The only way we lose the pick is if Indy gets a top 3 pick.

BusBoyIsBack
Only way we don't get their pick is if it's top 3 which would be incredibly unlucky. Man that would be devastating.
exodus
for 37 pts, beating the Raps. He banked in 2 three pointers, one from the corner lol. If Indy loses today they are tied. Luke Jackson played well for the Raps. He is the forgotten man from the '04 draft, taken 8th by the Cavs. He had back surgery rookie year and never really got minutes. He had 23 tonight, his first time over 20.

GST
And Cleveland beat Milwaukee, so our win against Indy last night didn't hurt us. The 1 and 11 pick dream still lives. Next up is the coin flip between Philly and Indy.
pimp
that would be very unlucky, but it has happened before. In Shaq's rookie year the Magic had the 12th worst record (41-41) and still won the #1 pick (#1 Chris Webber traded for #3 Penny)) If Indy Gets a top 3 pick and the Suns get our pick, then i would truly believe the Basketball Gods hate the Hawks. It's top 10 protected, however, since the Lottery is only for the top three picks (as far as moving down from way up at 11, 12, or 13)...we really only have to worry about Indy getting supremely lucky and getting into the top three...after that doesn't happen we are pretty safe. Blunt91
So the coin flip will be for who picks 11th or 12th?
CBAreject
Yes. If Indy "wins" the coin-flip, we get the 11th pick, unless they win the lottery, in which case we wait until next year to get the pick (unless it's top 8)

No. Essentially what happens is they run the "lottery" for the top 3 picks. Of the 13 teams in the lottery, three will "win" and get one of the top three picks depending on the numbers drawn. Once those three are determined, the remaining 10 teams pick based on reverse order of finish.
