Admin
Atlanta trades: Anthony Johnson Speedy Claxton Josh Childress Lorenzen Wright #3 #11 Atlanta gets: Marcus Camby Andre Miller #12 Why it works for Atlanta: This trade puts us in the playoffs this year and keeps us there for the next few years. Camby and Miller both have miles on them but should have another 3-4 years at a high level. They are both reasonable bargains considering their production levels. Camby gives us the monster rebounder and shotblocker that would make both JS and SW much more effective alongside him. Miller, while not being a fast paced PG, is very steady and will make all of our players better. At #12 we are able to take 1 of the 4 PGs that are left from Conley, Law, Crittenton, and Stuckey to groom behind Miller. Getting out of Speedy's contract is an added bonus. Why it doesn't work for Atlanta: We lose the potential to draft a potential star at #3. We also get older and take a risk that Camby can stay healthy. At #12 we are likely looking at the 3rd best PG rather than the 2nd. --------------------------------------- Philly trades: Andre Miller Steven Hunter #12 Philly gets: Speedy Claxton Josh Childress Lorenzen Wright #3 Why it works for Philly: Miller only has a few years left and the players available to them at #12 and #21 aren't likely to have anywhere near the impact that they can get at #3. Horford/Yi/Conley would all fit in very well with Philly's young core. Speedy (when healthy) isn't a major downgrade at PG from Miller and provides them with a more uptempto game. Childress is also a young player who should be productive for years. Why it doesn't work for Philly: Miller fit in very well with the young team last year after the trade and Hunter is a very reasonably priced quality backup to Dalembert. At #12 and #21 they could get lucky and find a quality player or could potentially trade both picks together to move up in the lottery. ---------------------------------------- Denver trades: Marcus Camby Denver gets: Steven Hunter Anthony Johnson #11 Why it works for Denver: Camby will never have a higher trade value. Hunter is a good guy to bring in to backup Nene at the 5, who moves into the starting lineup and starts earning his paycheck. Johnson is a veteran PG that could take some of the load off of AI. At #11 they can draft a PG for the future. Why it doesn't work for Denver: Camby should still have several more years at this level. He is one of the best rebounders and shot blockers in the game today. They would be taking a big gamble on Nene being ready to take over at the 5 but they pretty much made that bed when they offered him that huge contract. --------------------------------------- Thoughts?? Premium Member sturt Posted June 26, 2007 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 26, 2007 Just please... no... I'm not sure what anyone sess in him beyond the marqee name and blocked shots. Old... what skills he has are deteriorating. Injury prone. Limited offense. Makes no sense. Just none.
Gray Mule
Want to spend some money? Want a veteran P.G. for the Hawks? There's such a player available. He won't cost a draft pick. Hawks don't have to trade any one. Just a big pot full of $$$$$$ and he's ours. Billups has opted out of his contract and is a free agent. Do we want to spend THAT much for him? Can we afford his high $$$$$$ demands? Just something else to think about.
Nicholasp27
we don't have cap space (barring trades) to sign billups
BHayley
No way we sign Billups. He just opted out of his 7 or 8 mill contract. He is gonna want 10 Mill +. We have a ton of PG's we can easily get. If we overpay for Billups, JSmoove will not be resigning with us
