Portland's owner was the co-founder of Microsoft. They have plenty of financial backing. We have a bunch of cash tight owners who would never authorize such a thing.

(1) Dr. Reality is absolutely right that Phoenix would not consider selling to us for fear that we might drop the value of next year's pick.

(2) Be thankful at least we aren't selling. Phoenix is incredibly stupid for doing what they are doing. Draft a foreign guy who won't come for a while (i.e., Splitter). Draft a young guy rather than overpaying Marcus Banks, etc. Just poor cap management by not taking advantage of the rookie pay scale.

Your probably right on #1.

On #2, you are dead on. They sell their pick last year (Rondo) and sign Banks for the amount they sold their pick for. For as much credit as Phoenix gets, I think they mismanaged it last year for sure.
