Maybe it was because he was terrible. He was not the most articulate guy although he was on TV the other day on Sunday night on a local station. He was having trouble getting his thoughts out.

I cannot stand Matt Chernoff either. The guy has diarrea of the mouth and knows nothing. Somehow they kept him.

Chuck Smith leaves 790

I would fight Chernoff.. I would love to win a contest to fight him for charity because I would hurt him and as bad as it may sound, I would love it. He is the stereotypical shock jock radio host who always measures what he says to get the most impact or buzz. He will say things in a way that make you go "WHAT?" only to find out that it wasn't anything big and he's just overstating it to get you to keep listening. I hate that style because you never know when he's being genuine or not. That's also why I dislike Steak Shapiro. He's the same way.

They do have some good talent there though. I like Mike Bell, Nick Cellini and Chuck Oliver. They're just geniune guys who give their opinions. They don't play the over the top radio hosts, IMO. Chris Dimino is the best guy on the statoin, period, with Brandon "home team" Leak being a close second. I also like the Stew's most of the time. They're funny guys who seem pretty genuine. Sometimes they get a little too non-sports related for me, but other times I don't mind it.

I liked Chuck Smith and as many have speculated, I just don't think he liked Chernoff's style. He was a more reserved guy who wasn't given to specatular headlines or the false buildup.

I pretty much agree with you guys above, I was curious about this myself the other day and found this article on AJC:

http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/st...07/19/buzz.html

Ex-Falcons player has left the Zone

Former Falcons defensive lineman Chuck Smith has left 790/The Zone as a midday talk show host, station manager Neal Maziar confirmed with Buzz Wednesday.

Smith's final day was Friday, and Maziar characterized the departure as "amicable." Smith came to the Zone two years ago from V-103, but his star was partially overshadowed by the success of the 2 Live Stews. And recently, the Zone brought back college football specialist Chuck Oliver into the mix during "Monsters in the Midday" show. Though Oliver's return and Smith's departure seem to be related, Maziar didn't think the two possessed any bad blood. "He had a good run," Maziar said.

Smith, who couldn't be reached for comment, will continue to operate a defensive lineman camp for pro football players and another one for high school students, Maziar said.

790 is such a waist. Chuck Smith is gone b/c he can't speak English well enough to be on the radio. I went to Clarke Central HS (Chuck's HS alma matar). I can't blame him for how he talks. After going to the same HS as him, I totally understand why.

Chuck came from V103 where ebonics is an excepted language. He will probably resurface as V103's sports guy.

680 AM is the way to go ! Stephen A. Smith is replacing the Dan Patrick Show in the early afternoon. I love the Buck and Kincaid show. Buck is a true Ga. boy with a national championship ring and Kinkaid is from Philly. Both are intellegent, yet have different opinions due to their backgrounds. At least they're intellegent compared to the local competition (2 Live Stews).

I swear, if I ever hear, (Big Ups !), again I will puke.

Both Dan Patrick and Stephen A. are 10 X better then the 2 Live Stews or anyone else on 790. Those guys / station are such joke. Plus they side with Tech where 680 sides with UGA. 680 is better, that is, unless you prefer to get your sports news in ebonics with little to no factual substance.

I think your diatribe on ebonics is a little off base and unwarranted....

The Stew's don't offer their show up as one that's all sports and all about sports facts. Their show is about entertainment based around sports and that's typically what I like about it. I listen to sports radio almost all day long and sometimes it's refreshing to turn on the Stews and get something a little different. Sometimes it's a little too much, depending on the topic, but other times it's quite different than anything else on the radio and that's refreshing.

Stephen A. Smith is garbage.

Is Erik Kuselias joining Stephen A. Smith for good or just this week? I like Kuselias as well.

Chuck Smith could not get thru a sentence without saying "your listening to 790 the zone, atlantas sports leader"...

Every damn sentence. We know where you work Chuck. Yes, you do promo's Chuck. Just not EVERY sentence.

Chernoff is friends with Steak so you can't touch him even though he has no talent.

I too think that Domino is the best guy on the station and I like "Home Team," Chuck, Mike and Nick as well.

I love the "The Stews" because they are unique. I may not always agree with them but they are always entertaining.

Chernoff irritates me to no end. The only people on Atlanta radio who irk me more are Kincade on the "Buck and Kincade Show" on 680 and Laurentino on the "Rude Awakening" also on 680.

It is "waste" in the context that you used it, not "waist."

It is "alma mater" not "alma matar."

It is "accepted" not "excepted."

Before you insult someone's ability to speak english, perhaps you should do a little self analysis.

At any rate, while I can take Buck and his "southern good 'ol boy act" (though I think he is boring as hell at times), Kincade could very well be the biggest idiot on Atlanta radio.

As for the Stews, they are the only natioanlly syndicated local sports talk radio show for a reason. They have the best sports talk show in the ATL. Period. I think Chris Domino is the best talk show personality in the ATL but 790 messed up when they broke him and and Cellini up.

listening to steven a. smith is kind of like hearing nails scraping across a chalkboard. he's god awful. he rants and raves forever without ever getting a single meaningful point across.

the stews are tough to listen to at times. but if you can understand they are playing to a certain demographic and that their main goal is to entertain... their show is bearable. sometimes.

i wish doug gottlieb was replacing dan patrick. doug and colin cowherd are the only two personalities worth listening to.

as much as i liked chuck smith on the falcons. he just wasn't cut for radio. he had this really annoying knack of saying "wait wait let me talk now" and then would stutter for the next 3 minutes.

it's time to start a new radio station in atlanta! one that has at least one show dedicated to the nba! or at least has some personalities that know something about the game. how does atlant have two stations and not a single personality that knows a lick of basketball? steak you say? HA! YA RIGHT.

As you see I am from the same High School and county school system that taught Chuck how to talk. Hence, I understand why he talks the way he does. Our county's school sytem is far from up to date or well funded. Clarke Central looks more like a state prison then a HS.

I have alwayse been awful at spelling and English. My post probably have more typos then anyone on this site. With the type of people who were in my classes it would be impossible for any teacher to change the way their students were raised to speak from a young at age at home. That is why I understand why Chuck and the Stews speak the way they do. In the same breath, I don't understand how you become a professional radio disc josckey speaking that way.

Then again I am not a professional radio disc jockey either. If I was I would have focused on my English classes.

Sure, I wish I spoke proper English. I was given a business mind. I could sale matches in hell. My brother on the other hand has a PHD in Rhetoric / Composition from OSU. He has the "proper English" skills in the family.

I don't really care how waist or waste is spelled. Thank God on the radio you don't have to spell every word you say.

Not to rub it in but that should be sell not sale.

That was beautiful !

God, I love laughing at myself.

But come on.... does it matter ?

The defintion in Webster's for sale - the act of selling.

This is the South ! Aint' it ?

I saw Chuck Smith on Nancy Grace a few days ago commenting on the MV situ... She basically ignored what he said and misconscrued the other thing he said. I hate that heifer.

I wish him luck. I really liked his commentary and I think he do well with his own show... maybe give him a straight guy who doesn't want the spotlight.

you are not the world's greatest speller but you imply that Chuck and the Stews lack intelligence because they use "ebonics." My point is that in my opinion, you should not listen to HOW someone talks but rather to WHAT they say.

I work with a lady from outside Baton Rouge, LA and I can barely recognize the words she says as english but she is very smart and very good at her job. One of my agency's best IT guys can barely speak english but he knows his job and he knows how to communicate the things I need to know. Bottom line, listen to the CONTENT of the message, not how the message is delivered.

I agree. I make this argument all the time, often regarding "nucular."

sorry bub i'm not defending coachx but this is "sportsTALK" radio not IT... their job is to entertain people by talking. now if they speak in ways that are hard to understand, i think it would be kind of tough to be entertained. unless you are easily amused by barks and "all right, all right"

i find myself listening to the stews from time to time when kincade becomes unbearable. but it's not like i completely enjoy it. i'm just amazed at how uninformed doug is on just about every single issue. (not only sports) not to mention his penchant for mispronouncing every single word. these guys are nationally syndicated? are you f-ing kidding me? i see the stews as more of a fad than the "new" thing.

having said all that, they do get me to chuckle (for whatever reason) from time to time and for that i'm thankful.

but please can we drop the brother line from every single question? i.e. has a brother ever done that? what if a brother played that sport? it can get slightly unannoying for all us listerers who aren't "brothas"

Capt. Tenille: Simpson, as you have experience in a nuclear power plant, you can serve on a submarine.

Homer: It's pronounced 'nucular'. Nucular.
