Rick Ankiel ... this is great

I'm sure most of you remember Ankiel and how he flopped as the big time pitcher many thought he would become so in 2005 he started in the minor leagues learning how to play the outfield and in his first game back in the majors tonight he jacked a HR on a pitch that only the better power hitters in the game would have sent out like he did. I had no idea but apparently the kid was leading the pacific coast league in AAA with 32 HRs before being called up for this game. It's just really great to see someone who could have quit on himself like a Ryan Leaf and instead dedicates himself to learning an entirely new position and becomes a big time power hitter to boot.

It certainly will be a great feel-good story if he can keep it up in the bigs. My brother is a die-hard Cards fan and I remember the agony he was going through when Ankiel started throwing pitches to the backstop all the time. They were really counting on him being a quality starter for a long time. The kid had some stuff.
