What are the "holes" in Marvin's game?

I agree with you 100% about what would make Marvin's year 3 progress acceptable. The fact that we have other options this season like a better Smoove, a rested JJ, a strong pair of new rookies, a year older Childress, and a healthier Claxton mean that Marvin's scoring will likely not jump by 4 or 5 ppg.

However, a 3 ppg improvement on a better team is fine. Plus, his rebounding needs to get to 7 and his defense should improve.

Diesel will still rag on him but the rest of us should be happy with 16/7.

I believe Marvin has a chance to be special, but it may still take some time. I have been thinking it may behoove he and the Hawks for him to come off the bench. Coming of the bench could take the pressure off him and allow him to flow and grow.

I don't mind at all for Speedy and Childress in the starting line-up with JSmith, JJ and (the three headed 5) Shelden/Zaza/Horford. It would be the strongest defensive lineup to start games. Then bring in Marvin, Acie and Salim for instant offense.

Childress is simply the better player right now.

I could see that working, but in order for it to be effective Childress has to become a defensive specialist. I think his D is overrated thus far, but he has the tools to be a lock down defender.

Marvin and Law off the bench could be an awesome sparkplug. Law and Childress off the bench wouldn't be too shabby either.

Carolina freshman Marvin Williams had to wait his turn for the scissors. After North Carolina beat Wisconsin for a trip to the Final Four, the seniority system took hold. Williams was the last player to snip before coach Roy Williams.

But waiting is no problem for Marvin Williams. He hasn't started a game this season. Not one. And it's not because of a lack of talent. He might be the best player on his team. He might be the best player in St. Louis this weekend.

"Marvin Williams is the most talented player left in the tournament," says coach-turned-analyst Jack Armstrong.

The ACC rookie of the year and a projected lottery pick--if not No. 1 overall--whenever he opts for the NBA,
Williams (6-9, 230) doesn't seem to care about this starting stuff. He says it's all about the team and winning, and he sounds sincere.

When he finally climbed the ladder in Syracuse, Carolina fans chanted, "Three more years."

That remains to be seen, but Williams and his fans will get at least one more game from their favorite freshman, maybe two. And before neither will he hear his name announced as a starter.

Roy Williams says
Marvin Williams wasn't ready to start when the season began and that Jawad Williams had earned that spot anyway.
Was the coach supposed to sit Sean May? Marvin Williams didn't complain, but coming off the bench didn't come without its struggles. It's a different mental game, but he adjusted. Now he plays the role nearly to perfection.

If you look at it carefully, it really tells you that Marvin couldn't beat out Jawad Williams for the starting position... I mean, what exactly does it mean when he says "MARVIN WASN'T READY TO START". Does that mean that he choose not to start or does that mean that if he was a starter he wouldn't do well??
