What is the record for least wins in the season preceding a team winning the championship??

Boston, some where in '72 or '74.

Maybe '69-'70.

The 1998-99 NBA season didn't start until February 5, 1999, due to a lockout....LA Lakers finished 31-19 that year...then won the championship the next year...but it wasn't a full season of course...

The 1954-55 Philadelphia Warriors finished 33-39 (72 games)...won it in 55-56, finished 45-27...

...Although in a 82 game season it would be the 1975-76 Portland Trailblazers, they finished 37-45 that year, in 76-77 they finished 49-33 and won the title.......

I misunderstood the question. I read it as, what team had the fewest wins to go on to win the championship. In the same season.

I think the Closest was the Rockets...

In 1991-1992, they were 42 win team with no major injuries.

IN 1992-1993, they won 55 games... lost a tie break to Seattle... and Lost in the WCF in overtime of game 7 to Seattle...

The next year, they won it all.

However, I don't think the 1992 Rockets could have beaten the Bulls.
