Quote: "Since I've been here I have not viewed a player like I have Mario West," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "In terms of just making a major difference, he does that every time out. He makes a major impact just with his energy. And it's not fake. The way he plays does wonders for people around him. That's just how this kid plays. We were watching him in summer league and in pick up games. That's just how this guy is wired. "But make no mistake about it, Mario West earned his spot on this team." WraithSentinel
Congrats to Mario on making the team. Now we got another big guard in the backcourt.
coachx
His energy is contageous. Not just in practice. If there is a game where a regular seems lazy...........put in West as a reminder of what heart looks like.
AnnArborHawk
West reminds me of Adreian Griffin back in his days with Boston and Dallas. Good defender who brings a lot of energy. I love having a guy like this on the team.
tmac13
A guy like West should really help JJ's game. Even if its only 10 minutes a game that will be 10 minutes JJ doesn't have to D up against other talented 2 guards and help his effectiveness at the end of the game. I love having a guy like this on the team. I definitely like having a defensive specialist on the wing because that is generally where the high scorers are. Good pickup. KB21
I love it when players like this end up making the team. The opposite happens far too often in the NBA. In this day and age of guaranteed contracts, players like Mario West don't get many opportunities no matter how well they play. I have been really pulling for this guy to make this team ever since I heard good reviews on his defense, athleticism, and hustle in the summer league. It sends a good message to younger players when a guy like Mario West makes a roster. That message is to always work hard at what you do, because if you do, your dreams may just be realized. Last year, I was really pulling for Cedric Bozeman, partly because he was a true underdog and long shot to make an NBA roster, and partly because of what he went through to get to that point. Bozeman made it, but he just couldn't sustain his early season play over the long haul. The injuries he had at UCLA completely robbed him of the athleticism he once had and probably held him back in his short NBA career. I'm still hopeful that Bozeman will catch on with someone, because that guy deserves to have good things happen to him.
