I think that there are some benefits for Philly too. It gets them out of their two large contracts. Allows for building to take place behind Lou and AI. They're going to get a great player out of the draft and they will have lots of money for Free agency. For us, it exposes Smoove. However, Miller, Johnson, Miller, Smoove, Dalembert... If Smoove is targetted by Philly... There's Horf.
DJlaysitup
I'd do it. Doubt the ASG ownership would though - they are cheap with a capital C. And as long as the Thrashers are playing, they don't give a hoot about the Hawks - we'd likely be better off with the Belk-man. P.S. - no logic involved in using the ufo and the pink elephant...I just thinks they're cool.
cowa
Wow, besides bringing in three good players, here's what this trade does for 2008: 1) you've just taken our salary for next year to about $69M (assuming you pay the Joshes a combined $18M) 2) the main back-up for both PF and C next year is Solomon Jones 3) only 11 positions have been filled, and you still need to fill at least 2 of those, which will probably put you over the luxury tax threshold at 13 players! Not happening in our lifetime.

What I have proposed is using the expiring contracts to get players who can contribute. Not to mention getting rid of a few contracts that we'd rather not pay like Shelden, Speedy, Zaza. coachx
If there is away to get a PG who has lead the league in assist and an all star level Center for expiring contracts and Marvin you are the man ! If you can talk Philly into that deal I think the ASG hires you as the new GM immediatly !

I don't think Dalembert is Allstar quality... nor do I believe anybody else does... AND I don't think Miller will approach leading the league in Assist again. However, I do think Philly would consider the move because it frees up so much cap space and the New GM there wants Barrack Obama kinda Change. With this much money, they could go after Iguodala, Deng, and Diop...
cowa
Hey Diesel, I did calculate the loss of those contracts in my number. Did you? This trade puts us in horrible cap position. I did forget about Horf. My bad. You can't have a team of NBDL players and plan on no injuries, unless you're Boston.

Keeping the overall merits of Diesel's trade to the side, a trade that leaves the Hawks with a bench of Horford, Childress and Law makes the team deeper then it currently is. That would be a great bench for just about any team in the league. Replacing the contributions of guys like Lue, Sheldon and Zaza is pretty easy, even for NBADL guys. Either Chillz or Horford would start since we would be losing Marvin. (I guess Mike Miller could start at SF). Point is, you have two big man options, a couple different options at forward and a back-up point.
