Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep. The trio will create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Originally played by Robert Englund, the Krueger character haunted nine films and two TV series in what was New Line’s most lucrative franchise until “The Lord of the Rings.” Deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready an early May start for “Friday the 13th,” New Line’s relaunch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Marcus Nispel will direct from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (“Freddy vs. Jason”). Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel-directed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends. At Rogue Pictures, the Platinum Dunes team is prepping an exorcism thriller to be directed by David Goyer and a “Near Dark” remake to be directed by Samuel Bayer. Bay, Fuller and Form are also developing a Universal remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” with Martin Campbell directing Naomi Watts

Plainview1981
Quote: garbage, just like the Dead, chainsaw and halloween remakes. I actually don't have a problem with the Friday the 13th remake. Although I don't want to see ANOES remake... Even less if Robert England is not playing as Freddy. However, it's most likely to suck for the simple fact that Michael Bay is the director.
Premium Member AtLaS Posted January 31, 2008 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 I thought the Texas Chainsaw remake in 2003 was pretty good.
Admin
Agreed! Ermey was freaking brilliant and I would watch a movie with Jessica Biel doing anything and enjoy it!! I also really liked the Halloween remake and I am hopeful that these new remakes will also be good, although I am skeptical about Nightmare being any good if Englund isn't playing Freddie. ATLJA316
Indeed...I challenge any of you guys to re-watch tex. chainsaw mass. and count just how many times Jessica Biel gets soaked in water, either by falling, getting rained on, or getting splashed, etc... it's gotta be 4 or 5x throughout the movie. Admin
and strangely you never see any pokers ... but still very very hot! I would have liked the movie without her though because Ermey was so good.
