Joey Harrington no longer a Falcon

definitely. i think Joey's confidence (or lack thereof) will prevent him from becoming the QB well all wish he would become. Detroit really messed up Joey's confidence. Therefore he will never be more than a starter on a bad team or a good backup QB.

All QBs in this league can hit their receivers when given enough time. Its the QBs who can perform well when they are rushed, hurried, etc that separates the great ones from the good ones.

Joey plays not to mess up. As a result, he'll take sacks and throw away the football (sometimes a little too early) when hes under pressure.

Anyone else wondering what is up with the timing of this move?

The Falcons have Redman, an injured Shockly, and ________.

Is this a single that Ryan will be taken at 3? (hope not)

Is there a trade in the works? (Brady Quinn?)

Or was this done to free a little more cap to sign a high-priced lineman?

I just find the timing strange and not in-line with what Thomas has done so far.

Harrington really got a raw deal with a gutless coach. He'll land somewhere as a backup

AJC reported today that there are rumors of a trade with the Bills for J.P. Losman. Don't know much about him but he's been around a while and played with our OC in NY.

Two points that are relevant:

First we save some cap space and

second Joey didn't have much of a chance last year given he was sacked so many times and the coach was an [censored].

Falcons may sign Harrington to restructured deal

Team would retain veteran QB's services, save salary-cap cash

The Atlanta Falcons could re-sign recently released quarterback Joey Harrington as soon as this week, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The Falcons and Harrington's representative have had discussions about him rejoining the quarterback-strapped team with a restructured contract. Harrington was released by Atlanta on Wednesday.

Harrington, signed last spring to a two-year, $6 million contract, was scheduled to earn $2.5 million in 2008 and he is due a $1 million deferred signing bonus on March 15. Atlanta was absolved of the base salary by releasing Harrington.

By signing Harrington to a restructured contract, the Falcons could gain some salary-cap relief in the short term and retain the services of a veteran 10-game starter in 2007. As of now, Chris Redman, a free agent who signed a two-year contract on Feb. 29, and second-year player D. J. Shockley are the only quarterbacks on the roster.

The Falcons are expected to select a quarterback in the April 26-27 draft.

Harrington, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2002 by Detroit, was forced into the starting role at the outset of last season after Michael Vick pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges, which led to him being sentenced to 23 months in prison and being suspended, indefinitely, by the NFL.

Harington completed 215 of 348 passes for seven touchdowns. He also threw eight interceptions and was sacked 32 times for 4-12 Atlanta. Harrington was pulled in and out of the lineup by former coach Bobby Petrino and he lost his spot for good late in the season when Redman was inserted as the starter of the final four games.

In other developments, Cincinnati free-agent center Alex Stepanovich visited with the Falcons on Friday. Stepanovich was a part-time starter last season who also can play guard.
