Do the stats REALLY lie?

There will never be a stat for basketball that tells you who the best player is. Stats are helpful in confirming what your eyes see, and don't see. I can't think of any stat that "lies" since it is just quantifying what occurs. You need stats to make a sound argument so I hope people don't misunderstand what some people have been saying in this thread.
