I saw Stacey Augmon in South Dekalb Mall the year he was drafted!

I saw Dominique back when he had his club (Dominique's Downtown). I also saw Charles Oakley, John Starks, and another Knick named Charles (with a wife who used to be on A teen show on BET... SHE WAS HOT)...

A long time back, met Spud Webb. AIR PONY.

Met Alonzo Mourning and JR Henderson in Washington D.C. Mourning is not so big.

Then there's James Forrest, XRay Hipp, Ace Custis, Walt the Wizard, Steve Francis, Steve Blake, Damon Stoudamire, and all the rest of the Grant Park locals!

Met Bernard King, Isiah Thomas, Tree Rollins, Antwain Carr, John Drew, and an assortment of others at the OMNI!!

I've always wanted to meet Chuck Barkley though. Maybe if I hang out at a casino!

Guest Walter

Jeff Malone picked me up and tickled me at a South West HS car wash function (my mother was a SW HS teacher and I was a rabid 5-6 year old SW basketball fan). At the time I said I'd never wash my stomach again. I got to hang out with the SWHS national championship team quite often. Met 'Nique and Battle after a game once.

Of marginal NBA players...Have met and talked to Sharon Wright in HS. I used to play pick up ball with Dontonio Wingfield and Lavor Postell from Albany, GA. Dontonio Wingfield was the biggest punk I have ever met. In HS he beat up his mother so bad she had to be hospitalized. Incredible talent but never have I seen a person with less character. Never. I'd be shocked if he's not in prison today.

Walter and I must be from the same neck of the woods...

I played little league ball with Jeff Malone's nephew. Met him a couple of times. I still have a personalized, signed poster of Jeff Malone somewhere.

Went to Sharone Wright's basketball camp one time. He brought a young Marcus Camby in as a guest.

I was working at a flower shop at the time that Wright got into the car accident that ended his career. I took an order that was to be delivered to his mother's house. I asked for the message for the card and got, "Thinking of you and your son. Best wishes, Isiah Thomas."

If you're ever out for a late dinner in Atlanta, you seem to stand a good chance of running into a drunk Charles Barkley. I've seen him quite a few times...

Nice. I'd love to get drunk with Barkley and just shoot the s***.

Back in 1990 I played some pickup games with Sam Cassell while he was still at a junior college down the street from me. He was really good but I never imagined he would end up in the NBA.

About 2 years ago I sat next to Yao Ming on a flight to San Francisco and he was in the 1st row of 1st class and had to stretch his legs way out into the aisle. He didn't speak English all that well but he was a really nice guy though. I think he was on his way to China for rehab.

I saw Jarret Jack in his Jacket days at a friends wedding as he was in the wedding party. I got out there with him and other tall azz dudes to catch the garter, and I've seen William Avery at the babershop and church a few times. I think that's about it.

I know, I was kidding too. Actually if you have any mass to you then you might be able to give him a hard time since he doesn't have the strongest lower body.

I was going to say he kept tripping over my feet, but thought it was over-done.

Ryan Gomes used to play in my high school's basketball league, and when he was living in Boston, he'd come down to watch some of the basketball games here in Connecticut. I talked to him once or twice, but I was too shy to ever ask him for an autograph. Now that he's a riser in the NBA, I wish I would of just asked him to sign a piece of paper at least.

I saw Jordan playing ball at a Bally's Gym in downtown Chitown after his first retirement.....anyhow...enough spectators had gathered outside...and the wise ones amongst them were writing up notes and yelling Pippen > Jordan, so we got swept off the street by security :p

This is the ATL baby! I can't even count the number of players I've seen at various locations (clubs, restaurants, malls, gyms, etc) throughout the city over the years. Some notables I've seen out and about are Jordan, Magic, Barkley, Nique, Shaq, Pippen, Ewing, Moses and AI.

Atlanta is a big off season hang out for LOTS of NBA players and it always has been. I saw Jamaal Tinsley at the gym a few hours ago (he looks like he's in VERY good shape for this time of year).

Note - as superstars go, Nique has to be the nicest, friendliest guy you ever want to meet. I have NEVER seen him be rude to ANYONE despite the fact that he is CONSTANTLY approached when he is out and about (even when he is trying to have dinner with his wife/family). Whenever I see him out (dozens of times over the years), he always says hello and if he's not busy, he will talk some hoops with you. I saw him a few months ago at the gym and he was working out a guy on the court. After the workout, I chatted with him for about 5 minutes. Just a SUPER guy.

Nique's brother Gerald is cool too and quite hilarious. One of the funniest barbershop moments that I can remember happened years ago just as he had finished playing and involved him talking about being a Republican. Guys in the shop were teasing him about being a "Black Republican." Him defending himself was funnier than hell and he had us all cracking up. He made a pretty convincing argument regarding why he did and should vote Republican too!
