Flip Murray may already have the 2008-09 Sixth Man Award ...

Timely offense, and much needed spark off the bench has helped the Hawks snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and Flip Murray's good work may be rewarded with the 2008-09 Sixth Man of the Year award.

If Murray can come up with superior effort against the Cavs and two of these home games next week against the Lakers, Spurs and Celtics, the award is definitely his..

Well deserved if it happens. Having a player with a scorer's mentality, coupled with the ability to get into the paint = a perfect fit for a stagnant offense.

Yeah, every one on the radio here in Dallas thinks Terry has 6th man locked up without a conversation. Maybe so.

Jason Terry put up a goose egg in his matchup versus Murray, and I believe Flip has the edge now over Terry...

Flip speaks...this would be the beginning of a nice acceptance speech: "It's all about timing in the NBA," Murray said. "Some guys are fortunate that they're put in the right situation at the beginning of their career, and their teams work around them. I'm in a situation where I was trying to find the right fit. Everything's going well for me in Atlanta since I got here."

Hindsight = 20-20.

The biggest mistake, so far, IMHO, signing Flip to a ONE YEAR DEAL.

Yep. He's been great for the Atlanta Hawks this season. Not having him

locked up for more than one year MAY come back to bite us on the donkey.

Sure, apparently we didn't know what we were getting. Now we know.

Hope we can keep him and at a reasonable price. Seeing what he is doing

is sure to raise the price of a new contract. At least, it should.

:nono:

Lets not forget that Flip plays 23 minutes a game while JT plays 33 mpg. JT plays starter minutes which is why Dallas starts JJ Barea instead of JT who is a much better player at this point.

As far as Nate Robinson goes, he plays 30mpg for a team that is 4th from last in the conference. You can't give it to him either.

Personally I think we should start a grassroots campaign for Flip. Although in doing so we will probably price him off of our team next season.

6th man eligibility is determined by games started, not minutes played. If I remember correctly, the only requirement is to have started less than half the games the player played int.

Ginobili played 31mpg last year when he won it and Barbosa played almost 33 when he won it.

You guys are such homers.

There is no way Flip should get 6th man over guys like JT or Nate Robinson

Dude you have 4000 posts on a Hawks Fan site. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

In any event like the MVP the conception of the 6th man award is flawed. Theoretically the Heat could have any scrub start 2guard, jump center, call a timeout put Wade in the game and he'd be the 6th man. JT only not starts because the think he plays better coming off of the bench after the first TV timeout...but he isn't a bench player. Nate should start also but no NBA team could stomach listing a 5'6 dude as a starter in the stadium program, so they portray the fraud of bringing him off of the bench. Flip plays in the true mode of a bench player. He comes in in the second qtr in relief of Bibby and Joe...if he's hot he stays in, if not he sits down pure and simple.

The reasoning as to why each player does or doesn't start is irrelevant. Historically, the sixth man of the year award goes to the player who doesn't start and scores the most points out of the other non starters. Their job is to score so that is what they get awarded for. It doesn't matter how many minutes they get, it doesn't matter how tall they are all that matters is that they don't start and that they score. Therefore Flip doesn't stand a chance.
