Premium Member mrhonline Posted June 26, 2009 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 First, we all know that the Hawks aren't going to pursue PG's who cannot shoot from the perimeter. You and I may not like that, but it's the reality we all need to accept. That rules out the majority of FA point guards: FA point or combo guards who had 1+ 3PA/36 and shot 35+ 3P% in 20+ min/game: Ben Gordon Jason Kidd CJ Watson Mike Bibby Fred Jones Flip Murray Jarrett Jack You can subtract: 1. Ben Gordon - too expensive 2. Jason Kidd - will want to go to a championship contender 3. CJ Watson - too inexperienced 4. Fred Jones - not better than Flip That leaves: Mike Bibby Flip Murray Jarrett Jack ...or a S&T of Bibby or Marvin (tough due to CBA issues) for a PG. Think the Pacers said they are keeping Jack and shopping T.J. Ford. So add him to the list. Would also think Ramon Sessions would still be in play considering that we added plenty of backcourt shooting between Crawford and Teague this week. I really don't think we plan on either Teague or Crawford being the opening day PG....so we have to find a way with one of these guys.
Watchman
I've always wanted Andre Miller. I know he's not that great of an outside shooter, but to me he seems like the classic pass-first point guard. (I have noticed that his assists are down from his earlier years, however.) Premium Member mrhonline Posted June 26, 2009 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 The Blazers are (reportedly) offering Blake+Outlaw for Andre Miller. If that doesn't work out for them, would you consider that package for Bibby?
Moderators macdaddy Posted June 26, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 How many guards are we going to have on the team? This is it. We will sign either Bibby or Flip and it will be PG by committee with BibbyorFlip/Crawford/Teague(if he can crack the rotation). Last year we went with just Bibby and Flip. I think most likely it will be Flip.
mattlanta
I thought the Pacers are going to want to stick with Jarret Jack and try to trade Ford?

If that doesn't work out for them, would you consider that package for Bibby? If we plan to resign Marvin (and prefer him over Outlaw), could we S&T Bibby for Blake with Portland being under the salary cap? That would net them probably an additional $2+M in salary. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/portland.htm

I don't get all that thrilled about Blake, but he is decent, I suppose.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted June 26, 2009 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 Blake is a poor man's Bibby (a better on-ball defender, though), and Outlaw is a nice backup forward. Both are on expiring contracts.

Premium Member mrhonline Posted June 26, 2009 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) Outlaw only makes $3.6M, Blake $4M. $7.6M is right around what Bibby will likely command. Blake/Teague/? JJ/Crawford Marvin/Outlaw Smith/Wilcox(?) Horford/Zaza/Morris Edited June 26, 2009 by mrhonline
Watchman
Can we afford both, though? It seems like a choice between Marvin and Outlaw for me. My initial gut reaction to the Crawford trade was that we plan to not re-sign Marvin or Bibby, or perhaps both. Since Bibby and Crawford are both poor defenders, I wouldn't want them as my starting back court. I'm sure Marvin is better than Outlaw, but I bet Outlaw would come a little cheaper. Moderators AHF Posted June 26, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 Outlaw only makes $3.6M, Blake $4M. Hoopshype lists Outlaw at $4M for next season and Blake at $4.9M. That is a significant discrepancy.

jezmund
The Blazers are (reportedly) offering Blake+Outlaw for Andre Miller. If that doesn't work out for them, would you consider that package for Bibby? I definitely make that trade for Bibby. Blake and Outlaw would both be in our rotation and have expiring contracts. That keeps our bench deep and gives us some flexibility next summer with JJ, Horford and a bunch of other teams' FA's. I think the addition of Outlaw would give us some leverage with Marvin, as well. A lot of you seem to like Marvin as a 6th man and Outlaw is a more than adequate BU SF. Blake is a decent BU PG who will split minutes there with Teague and Crawford. We could see what kind of big could be had in a sign-and-trade for Marvin. Maybe some kind of 3-way that nets us Marcus Camby and either a young prospect or a 2010 1st to eventually replace Marvin. Crawford/Teague/Blake Johnson/Crawford Outlaw/Evans Smith/Camby Horford/Camby With 2 2010 1sts and a rather flexible roster financially. JJ/Camby/Blake/Outlaw will be FA's next summer, Horford will be up for an extension next summer and Crawford/Evans will be expirings. We'd have a ton of room to move forward with Horford/Smith/Teague as our future core.

uga2006
If we bring back Bibby I only want him for a maximum of 2 years with a team option for the second year at a decent price only.
