Moderators AHF Posted July 2, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted July 2, 2009 LOL . . now how crazy are we really? We welcome Crawford ( a guy who is explosive but schizophrenic on offense ), but want nothing to do with Artest ( who is schizophrenic but can be explosive on offense, but is also one of the best all-around defenders in the league )? Really? You are acting like Crawford and Artest are comparable in terms of scoring efficiency. They aren't. Crawford > Artest. Defensively, Artest is much better but you are still comparing apples to oranges. Artest would be replacing Marvin (not Flip) who is >> Artest in terms of scoring efficiency and who is not that far away in terms of defense. Artest would also be using our entire MLE and prevent us from signing a FA big man or PG. Crawford saved us cap money for this year (if we are not bringing Flip back). Premium Member Sothron Posted July 2, 2009 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 2, 2009 The one thing you can not find in any PER stat or on 82games.com is sanity level. Artest is the only player in the NBA that you have a legitimate risk of him doing something insane and getting a lengthy suspension (or worse) over. He's not worth the risk. DrReality
Artest would be a set back as far as the maturity of the overall team. And Woody could not coach him.

QFT Woodson would loose the entire team with Artest in the fold. My gosh, Artest + Smith= total disaster.

Artest eFG on jumpers: .471 . . . ( 40% from 3-point range ) Marvin eFG on jumpers: .449 . . . ( 36% from 3-point range ) Crawford eFG on jumpers: .446 . . ( 34% from 3-point range ) Northcyde Jump Shot Index: Marvin: .754 Artest: .742 Crawford: .738 Keep in mind that Crawford's game, is the jumpshot ( 86% of shots last year were jumpers ) . . unless Woody performs some miracle next season, and gets that guy to drive the ball a lot more. Defensively, there's no question that Artest is the better of the 3. Artest's problem, is that he was playing like he was still a #1 option. He was also a HORRIBLE finisher on his inside shots. His game may be on the decline somewhat, and would be better suited being a complimentary player in the mold of Bruce Bowen. If he teams up with Lebron and Shaq . . oh boy. That'll be just another headache we'd have to worry about. They could have somebody to harass JJ for most of the game, while Lebron plays a rover position on defense. Having said that, I do agree that because Marvin is still improving, and because of Marvin's age, that you'd take Marvin over Artest. But Artest over Crawford? Ummm . . no. The Crawford move is only better, because of the cap issue.

He may not be worth the risk, it it meant losing Marvin. But not because he isn't a better overall player than Marvin. Artest could turn us into a top 5 defensive ballclub, plus possibly give us better 3-point shooting. It's funny though. A team that is on the brink of winning a title, think he's definitely worth the risk.

That isn't nearly as relevant, IMO, as: Marvin TS%: .569 Crawford TS%: .545 Artest TS%: .512 Crawford was much more efficient last year as a scorer and has been more efficient over his career than Artest so as a scorer you take Crawford. For the total player you must then add in: * Artest as a defender >> Crawford * Crawford's sanity >> Artest Shake those out as you see fit, but that is how I see it. drzachary
Why use TS% when you could use NSJI.... or the ZSSF? Crawford = 17 Marvin = 13 Artest = 6 So if we keep Marvin, we'll have the best two of the three.

Do we really want Ron Artest, Josh Smith, and Jamal Crawford on the same basketball team with a coach that has no control over his players? We would need a plethora of doctor's available at our disposal, and not the physical kind.

It's a corrolary I developed for NSJI, since both are irrelevant.
Moderators AHF Posted July 2, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted July 2, 2009 Smith's ZSSF is only 10, hmmm. This is why we need to acquire Richard Jefferson, Stephen Jackson or Bobby Jackson: Jefferson = 20 Jackson = 20 exodus - This link shows how to calculate the ZSSF: http://www.online-scrabble.com/articles/letter_values.php
