i would normally like Silo but i'm afraid he hints at being stiff which i dont think he is......kong is nice but being compared to an ape sometimes can go badly...not in the black/white sense of things but the intelligence sense...may imply he's just a big ape and not very bright, may not like that...but if he's ok with it, i'll run with it.......heck after he blocks a shot or slams one down he can do the beat the chest thing king kong did.....................also maybe other options space related include Planet Siler, The Universe, Garrett The Galaxy....

may also be a good idea to give him a nickname that invokes thoughts of going all out or anger so maybe he feels it necessary to play to his nickname..for example Madhouse or Volcano...i don't know...

Sturt is correct. People were as high on Morris as they are Siler, and for good reason.

To quote myself from a year ago:

Remember that Siler is not as proven as Morris.

DraftExpress agrees:

Their praise for Morris wasn't exactly sterling either, but they at least expected him to sign on as a backup center.

http://www.draftexpr...olph-Morris-32/

HAHAHA! Mr H. That was funny. Please do NOT represent your failings last year or Draft Express' 2-3 years ago (no doubt they would amend that by last year after once Morris had proven the concerns about him..."lazy"...were true) in terms of player projections on the rest. Frankly, I don't see where anyone thought Morris was back-up center material (in the future or in the now) last year. He was a practice player 11-12th man and that was it! I thought the 2 year signing was ridiculous, but whatever.

The point now is between the two 11-12th players on the bench who can bring more to the table both now and expecially in the future. Clearly that is Silar even if you can't player project. Clearly.

That's funny, Walt, because when Morris signed on with the Knicks for the minimum you said:

Morris doesn't have to change at all to be worth this amount of money. Yes, he has changed some and physically considerably.

Are you now saying that the whopping 225 minutes he played for the Knicks changed your impression of him so dramatically that you were ready to renounce your statement from a year prior? In case you forgot, you said that not signing Morris to a $1.6M deal was:

another horrible GM error, this one by omission.

If so, that's fine, but who's to say you won't change your mind next year on Siler?

Lets just call Siler "Superman" since that is the best we seem capable of doing with supersized centers in the NBA.

BUMP THAT! I'm going to continue to call him KONG because of the way he tower over players in the paint.

If some of you are scare because you think ppl will think you are disrepecting him then so be it. I know that is not my intent and bump those who think it is! :*ss:

While the Knicks in their horrible state giving up on Morris after one year didn't seem to quell your enthusiasm, it did mine and anyone else who has a clue. Moreover, Morris signed for ONE YEAR with NY. Why we would sign the bum after NY DUMPED HIM for 2 years at more than the minimum just shocks me.

If in a year or two, Siler doesn't pan out, so be it. He has considerably more upside than Morris and currently can already present a better practice player, pick, fouler, and intimidator than Morris, about all an 11th-12th man can offer. No risk, greater reward. Seems simple.

You have become a part of the "sissifacation of this nation."

Riiiiiiight. Like it has ever been cool to call a black man some sort of an "ape" reference in this country . . . unless he's referring to it on his own. Like there are a ton of Black athletes calling themselves some sort of "ape" to describe themselves. I'm just pointing out the obvious here.

Let me ask you this. Why did the name "Kong" all of a sudden pop up when coming up for a nickname for Siler? You could've came up with every other conceivable name other than that. So why "Kong"? I'll let you explain that one.

It's a reason why LeBron's "Vogue" cover with Giselle Bundchen last year, stirred up so much controversy.

ESPN's Jemele HIll's article on this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hill/080320

The Vogue cover, compared to the King Kong poster back in the 1930s.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/03/18/abc_king_kong_vogue_080318_mn.jpg

So tell me again. Why the name "Kong" for Siler . . . when you could've chosen a plethora of other names to describe a strong dude in the middle?

[ Note to the Squawk: I'm not going to drag this on after he answers this post ( if he answers it ). I just want to understand what his mindset was, when the name "Kong" popped into his head to describe Siler. And Brotha, this isn't personal. This is just me stating my objection to what you are calling this big black man. ]

I guess this is your answer. So be it then.

But as the great Eddie Murphy said in the barbershop scene in Coming to America, when talking about what to call Muhammed Ali . . .

"His mama called him Garrett . . . Ima call him Garrett"

Question: How many empty roster spots do the Hawks have right now?

Could this player be the HUGE, Tractor Trailer type player I've begged for all these years?

Sounds like he might be.

Whoever gets the 11th or 12th spot on the bench shouldn't expect a lot of playing time.

This is where he would fit in if we siign him.

But, occasionally, the Hawks really need this type player, an inside presence.

:write a letter:

That would be funny if I were to go to the game with a poster saying Garret 'KONG' Siler!

I might just get the crap beat out of me LOL

Siler also had an offer from Minnesota, but the Timberwolves signed 7-foot center Ryan Hollins, a restricted free agent from the Dallas Mavericks. Shortly after learning the news, Siler's agent, Lance Young, fielded a call from Atlanta. The Hawks offered Siler an opportunity to come up a few weeks early in advance of their training camp.

Good move by Sund. I called it, too. :helpsmilie:

Former Jaguar takes Hawks' offer

By Chris Gay| Staff Writer

Garret Siler is staying close to home.

former Augusta State All-American center announced Tuesday night his decision to attend the Atlanta Hawks' veteran camp in late September.

He said he expected to sign the paperwork later this week.

"It's a lot easier to focus on your prayers," Siler said about now having just one team on his radar.

Young joked with Siler about slipping Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson $50 at the Hawks' minicamp two weeks ago because Woodson speaks so highly of the 7-foot, 278-pound center.

"(Woodson) liked me a lot," Siler said. "The assistant general manager likes me. The regular general manager likes me.

"I guess that Southern Siler smile just kills them."

Siler continues to work on his game with former Jaguars assistant coach Lenny Carlson. Siler's also watching his diet -- Woodson told him to stay in shape.

Siler said he expects to head to Atlanta around Sept. 12. He said he believes he'll compete with about 20 players for a roster spot.

"I'm going to come ready to go to work," he said.
