Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay will officially be a free agent next season!!

Imagine 2 of the most athletic players in the league. No not Dwight and Vince and definitely no not Lebron and Shaq/Jamario Moon. If Joe doesn't re-sign Rudy Gay will definitely be a welcomed fit. He is an allstar/young player that needs help and a winning system kind of like Crawford.

Jeff Teague/ Mike Bibby/ Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford/ Rudy Gay/ Mo Evans

or Rudy Gay/ Marvin Williams/ Mo Evans

Josh Smith/ ?(Maybe Joe Smith again)

Al Horford/ Zaza Pachulia

Rudy Gay is an up and coming star just like Jeff, Marvin, Smoove, and Horford and these five young players that are capable allstar/superstars the Hawks will have some of the best and youngest vets in the league at every position.

Not to just forget about Joe but you always have to have backup and security and I think Gay will come at more of a reasonable price. I know all the BK Haters will hate to see a team composed of

Teague/Bibby

Gay/ Crawford

Williams/ Evans

Smoove/Smith

Horford/Pachulia

but it would be hard to doubt the talent of not only the starters but the bench would be just as deadly. (Bibby and Crawford may not be the best defensive tandem but against bench players no one is stopping their offense).

First off, we're not going to be able to afford Rudy in 2010, because we won't have enough cap room to do it . . unless his value drops significantly . . or we trade somebody(ies) to free up money for the summer.

And Memphis will probably match any reasonable offer sheet for him. He's the "Smoove of Memphis". He's not their best player, but easily their most exciting and most marketable player.

But you know why Memphis is letting the market decide the price for Rudy? They did it for the same reason why we did it with Smoove and Marvin. He's a good player, but not a guy you want as your #1 scoring option, because of his inconsistency. He's a guy that you want as a complimentary player to a star. Rudy is far more athletic than JJ, but you're not going to get the playmaking, defense, and decision making that you get from JJ, out of Rudy.

That's going to be the major problem, if the Hawks decide that JJ is too expensive to keep. That dude can pretty much do it all . . at a level lower than Wade . . but better than 85% of the rest of the guards/small forwards in the league. Plus he plays defense on top of all of that. And his size and bulk makes him even more unique and difficult to replace.

I wonder how much he and his agent were asking for? No way was he getting anything over 10 million. Knowing the Griz, they probably want to pay him Marvin type money.

On the Hawks, we'd have to start Crawford, and bring either Rudy or Marvin off the bench. Marvin is probably the guy to go to the bench, if we got Rudy.

Northcyde is totally right on this. If JJ won't be with us next year, unless we can preempt it by trading him beforehand, we won't be in a good position at all because 1) as northcyde mentioned, JJ does a lot of things very well--things you won't get from most SGs in the league 2) we just can't sign good FAs, let alone top-notch FAs, during the offseason because we don't have the cap space and 3) Crawford is not an ideal replacement for him.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out for us.

Rudy Gay is a very overrated player. He puts up nice stats but he doesn't help his team on the court and he plays bad defense.

I thought he was their best player. Who is then?
