Woody: Teague MUST wait behind vets

so basically every guard we draft just sucks, even though there's only been one common denominator, woody. It's not common for a young player to be glued to the bench for unknown reasons and having his confidence broken just to go to another team and magically in a second get it back. Woody just broke their confidence, it's still yet to be known whether he begins to get his confidence back since he's been on 2 PG heavy teams since leaving here.

What do Royal Ivey, Salim Stoudamire, and Acie law have in common? They All suck no matter what coach they play for. What planet are you on where those guys have gone to other teams and played well? So yeah- every guard the Hawks have drafted in recent memory sucks if you want to think about it that way. And now time will tell on Teague.

just to go to another team and magically in a second get it back
Seriously.... wtf are you talking about? Ivey hasn't done anything since he left. Acie can't get off the bench. Salim is out of the league. Edited by spotatl

Acie just left a few months back, hasn't even been a full year. U think he'll go from broken confidence to immediately getting his confidence back after being traded? it's even worse he went to GS with 1000 PGs, then to Charlotte who has a log jam there as well. He was actually starting to get into the rotation in GS before he got traded, he had to be thrown in for someone to take that head case Stephen Jackson.

and as far as Ivey and Salim. who cares? they were 2nd round picks with incomplete games. Ivey was a defender that had no offensive skills whatsover. Salim was an undersized 2 guard, that couldn't defend anybody and had a weak handle. he was at best an Eddie House type. and he's out of the league because of his injuries. that's why the Spurs cut him.

i feel that u can judge Acie or whatever but don't put him in the same category as Salim and company because he actually had the skills to be a good PG in this league and the same thing that people are saying about teague is the same thing they said about Acie until his future really started to get cloudy as a hawk. it's the same thing every year. I said before the season started that Teague is gonna get the same treatment as Acie, people say no Teague actually has the talent to contribute ( the same said about Acie when he first got here) and almsot half way through the season the guy still has splinters in his butt. another body same story

Acie is a bust- TWO teams since the Hawks have completely given up on him. What kind of man love do you have for the guy that you still thnk he has just been in bad situations? He has played for 10% of the league at this point. At some point you have to just accept that he was a terrible pick.

I wanted Acie to succeed just like everybody else. And he, of all people, can't say that Woody didn't give him a chance. Acie played much more than Teague does now, in his rookie year. But when Acie got hurt not 10 games into his rookie year, it pretty much set the tone for the rest of his career so far in the NBA.

The first injury allowed Anthony Johnson to prove his worth, and eventually become the undisputed starter. Add the fact that it was AJ who led us to be over .500 in late December for the first time in about 7 - 8 years, you knew that Acie would have to work to get his briefly held starting job back.

He just didn't seize the moment.

Then he gets hurt AGAIN.

Then BK made the trade for Bibby, a guy who could play 35 min a night at PG, and Acie's opportunities becameless and less. In year 2, he was the undisputed backup PG. But look what happened. He let Flip, a guy who nobody wanted, come right in here and outshined him. Acie never elevated his game while he was a Hawk. And once again, he played a lot more than Teague does now.

Acie couldn't finish at the rim ( got better in year 2 )

Acie couldn't shoot worth a damn ( his outside shootng seemed to get worse in year 2 )

Acie was a virtual no-show on defense ( he didn't get sreals, deflections, none of that )

Acie would commit untimely turnovers, especially offensive fouls going to the hole.

So Acie leaves here, and goes to Golden St. He looked like he was getting better as a player. Then again, Nellie's crazy azz was playing him at SF on occasions during the preseason. And the backup PG ( CJ Watson, was hurt ). So when CJ comes back into the fold, it's Acie's job as a player to beat CJ out for that backup PG position.

He didn't do it

Then Acie gets traded to Charlotte. Same situation. If he wants to play, tell him to beat out the guy that was his arch rival in college, DJ Augustin ( who went to Texas ).

He didn't do it.

But if he could shoot and play a little defense, he and Augustin could possibly play in the same backcourt together. I guess Larry Brown and Jordan thought differently, seeing that they brought in Flip. Now look what Flip did. He took minutes from both DJ and Acie.

Now look at Teague so far:

- He shoots a little worse than Acie.

- He finishes at the rim worse than Acie did.

- He's athletic, which does enable him to get an occasional steal or a deflection

- But he's in a worse situation than Acie playing time wise, because both Bibby and Crawford can play the point ( or lead guard ) position.

So if Teague wants more PT, he either has to . . . 1) start making an immeadiate impact on a game, even in short stretches. ( Mario has proven that this can be done ) . . . or 2) simply start outworking Bibby in practice.

All of this excuse making on why he should be playing, when the kid shoots poorly and isn't impacting games, should simply stop. Somebody needs to tell that kid to start outworking people, and producing on the court.

Near the end of Shelden's Hawk career, who was woring harder and making more of an impact on games . . . . Shelden or Solomon Jones?

So instead of wondering why Teague doesn't play, someone needs to tell Teague to start making layups, start making midrange jumpers, start playing his azz off on defense ( even if it's just for 3 - 5 minutes ) . . . and maybe . . . just maybe . . . he'll get more playing time.

Northcyde, you kill me. Yes, Teague needs to step it up in practice and on the court. That I can get onboard with.

But again, you are looking at the PRESENT and not the FUTURE. This short-sided myopic view of yours is what puts teams in desperate situations. All this Woody backing you do points to it. If Teague is as heralded as Woodson makes him out to be in his pressers and other comments, then dude should be getting regular time on the court. Again, not 15 minutes, but more than he is getting now AND on a consistent basis. You know, not 12 minutes one game, DNP-CD the next 3 games in a row, followed by another 5 minute cameo. Bibby won't hold up forever, and no one wants Crawford at PG full time. We WILL need a PG who can assume the reigns if Bibby or Crawford go down.

Right now, Teague has not been given opportunities to even begin being able to do that. Period!

When the Hawks are +18 with Teague in the game and quickly lose much of that lead when Bibby comes back there is no reason not to put him back in during the second half. Bibby is only averaging 9/4 and is getting torched on defense. The Hawks always have to hide him whenever they are playing a high scoring pg. The problem is that JJ and Crawford can't guard those guys either.

Teague is the only guy on the roster quick enough to keep up with guys like Harris and Rose and has consistently shown good effort on D. That alone is enough reason to give him more minutes.

People should not miss the forest for the trees. Teague has shown some pretty good makings of a PG in his limited opportunities.
