JJ's comments kind of bother me a little!

J.J. on Crawford taking the last shots against Phoenix and Oklahoma City instead of him: “The plays are not getting fully executed. Not that that’s a bad thing. It’s nothing against Jamal. He makes big shots for us. You never know, the next three or four game-winners, I might take them. We’ll live with it.”

I maybe reading into things a little but it didn't come across right to me. Is there a little jealousy there. You tell me!!

I think he is saying he should have the ball. Whatever as far as I am concerned. We have several decent shooters on this team and not one Kobe. I say the open man, even if its Horf, takes the last shot for us. Unless its a three, then anyone but our bigs can take it.

Probably. Crawford has led our team in scoring several times, has 17 20+ point efforts, and is getting rave reviews for his 6th man play off the bench from sources around the league. Let us not forget, JJ is playing for a new contract...a near-max type contract. Make no mistake: he wants the ball in his hands.

However, he is right to a degree...we don't fully execute on offense sometimes...probably because Woodson doesn't really focus on offense..at all.

The play call was for him and he didn't get the ball. Is that jealousy or just saying "the coach drew it up that I get the ball but i couldn't"?

Like he said, because the play call is for him, if he get's the opportunity to shoot it he'll shoot it if not he'll live with it.

JJ's got to realize he's not "the man" anymore when it comes to who we want taking that last, game winning shot. JJ forces things too much and he waits too long to get rid of the ball when he's doubled. We have 4 other guys on the floor fully capable of talking the last shot. It should go to whoever's open....period.

The play called for JJ to run to the corner............where it is easier to deny the ball................Crawford came to the top of the key where its easier to get the ball.

There was such a limited amount of time it was truely hard to run too much of a play.

Crawford ended up with the ball in the exact same situation the next game vs. the Thunder too.

That being said...............JJ rarely talks and when he does we often read too much into it. He was jumping up and down like everyone else after that win. As long as win JJ will be a happy camper. Crawford is such a good guy. How could you get mad at guy like him ?

Nobody is "the man" outside of a few elite basketball players on Championship caliber teams. I can think of Lebron and Kobe.

Seriously, is there anyone else that every on a Championship caliber team - in other words 2 to 3 star players are on that team - that everyone else must defer to?

You can't win a title with 1 star. MJ is possibly the greatest player in NBA history and he had Pippen, not to mention the specialists like Grant, Hodges, and Kerr.

I just think JJ is a bit slow and knows what he wants to say but maybe doesnt know how .

The play did get run there is a first ,second ,third and 4th option usually . If he was the first jamal was probably the second or third option so just like any other play that is ran if you cant hit the first option then move onto the others .

If anything the problem is JJ is just used to getting the ball no matter what . You think Kobe or lebron says the play didnt get ran right if Fisher or Mo Williams ends up open for a shot ? this is more a BBall IQ thing imo.

Watching the play, you saw Phoenix shaded towards Joe. Nash was leaning towards Joe, Joe's man was on him and the double was ready to come. Also, they were covering Horf in that same breath. I think that Bibby threw the ball into Jamal and he had man coverage and a very good look so he took it.

The next time with OKC, Green was supposed to foul. I think Craw looked for him to run at him and foul so he could get a shot off. Green never did. Craw's shot was close.

Actually of all of our players, I like to see Bibby take the last shots. Bibby is a very good shooter. Good natural fundamentals. I'm surprised that Woody hasn't worked out a play where Bibby throws it in and it comes right back to him.

If you've watched Kobe as much as I have then you will know he absolutely seethes when he doesn't get the last shot of the game be he single, double or triple covered so yeah that point is moot. He slinks, curses, flails his arms, and scowls when he doesn't get the shot but the media just excuse it as his "competitiveness". You don't garner a reputation as being one of the most selfish players in the league without feeding into it, it's just that nowadays "selfish chucker" get's romanticized as "assassin" or "warrior" depending on the player's rep. Jamal for instance has taken and made just as many 4th quarter shots as Kobe has over their careers but I'm sure you can imagine what title he get's labeled with.

Lebron on the other hand continuously get's criticized over the fact that he is too unselfish and lacks a killer instinct because he would rather pass the ball to Big Z on an open baseline jumper than take a contested J to win the game. Plenty will call that smart basketball but many more would much rather live and die with their star taking the shot no matter what.

It's not an issue of Joe's IQ, he has been treated as and performed as the first option his whole time here so yes he wants the ball in his hands with the game ticking down but we've seen him have zero problem dishing off and having the game winners being taken by others (Marvin in the Boston game, Bibby in the Houston game last year). Is he wrong to say the plays aren't getting executed? Well the call was for an easy 2 to tie in the Suns game and we ended up with a contested 3 instead but he also added "Not that that’s a bad thing." with Jamal taking the last shot meaning he has just as much confidence in Jamal hitting the shot as he does himself.

Haters are trying to read too much into what Joe is saying trying to paint him in a negative light. :stirthepot:

I have thought the same thing, and reading Joe's body language I think something is in his eye. It is much less "Joe's team" now before Jamal got here. I see Joe doing more PR, more interviews. In his contract year, Jamal is yanking a little of his wiggle. It's a character test for Joe for sure.

It is like people remember all the game winners Jordan hit but forget the plays he set up for guys like Kerr, Paxson, etc. to hit critical game (championship) winning shots.
