Houston was willing to take on Jefferies- thats how valuable it is to take on someone else's unwanted contract. Like I said- Expiring contracts are only as valuable as the bad salary you are willing to take on.

Expiring contracts are worth slightly less than nothing. But if you are willing to take on someone else's bad contract you can be compesated greatly for doing so.

Expiring contract + Jared Jeffries (owed roughly $2.5M in 2010 and $6.8M in 2011)

=

Kevin Martin + Lottery Pick Jordan Hill + right to NY's 2011 first round pick (at a cost of Houston's) + NY's 2012 first round pick

AHF- Jordan Hill is not part of the trade. And the Rockets gave up Landry to get Kevin Martin. (Landry who is locked into a 3 million dollar salary for next season making him one of the best contracts in the league)

Put it this way- the Knicks would have given up even more to have Eddy Curry in the trade instead of Jefferies? Do you think that would have meant McGrady's contract was super duper valuable? Or maybe its just evidence that teams will pay dearly to get rid of unwanted contracts.

The Rockets gave up landry for Martin. The Rockets got a pick swap and a future first for taking on JEfferies. The rest is just matching salaries with as little salary baggage as possible.

Joe is probably going to NY with LeBozo. Let's try to get CP3 in 2011.

Yes. That is why they had their choice of a series of packages of valuable players and picks for it. The package they got was pretty huge.
