jerrywest
Marvin played mad tonight. I have never seen Marvin's eyes like that.

FrankWhite
We need to have that Bibby-Jamal-JJ lineup in during crunchtime, because if there's one thing you want in the waning moments of a game, it's atrocious perimeter defense. You need the threat of their shooting ability in the crunchtime also, it's a catch 22. What do you want them to do??

JackB1
Marvin has had many games where he scores 10 in the 1st qtr and then disappears for the other 3. I guess Woody was anticipating this to happen again.
drzachary
Why did he not play many minutes down the stretch? Well, because he was drafted 2nd overall, he's not Chris Paul or Deron Williams, he only watches Spongebob instead of practicing, he wasted valuable time working on his degree, the list goes on and on... Admin capstone21 Posted February 23, 2010 Admin Report Share Posted February 23, 2010 He was hot and aggressive to start the game and then for some unknown reason Woody took him out. He did not put him back in until halfway through the second quarter. He was playing so well that Woody should have left him in there instead of doing the same substitution pattern he always does. You need to be able to switch it up with matchups and how someone is playing. Woody is notorious for having the same sub pattern no matter how players are playing. exodus
He didn't play down the stretch because Bibby has been so hot lately.
TheNorthCydeRises
All of this cynicism now . . . yet, people have been bashing Marvin for over two months straight now. Now they wonder why he didn't play down the stretch? If Woody would've subbed for Mo Evans ( who was playing decent ball ) at the beginning of the 4th, people would've criticized Woody for not trusting his bench. It's a lose - lose situation when it comes to Woody and anything decision he makes.

I still can't get over his absolutely mind-boggling decision to bench JJ in that early game against the Lakers where he went off for 18 points in the first quarter. JJ left, the Hawks lost their lead, and JJ didn't have the same touch after he came back from the bench. And the ultimate irony is that he actually pulled JJ earlier than usual that game. That's the most frustrating thing to me about Woody's substitution patterns. They seem to be completely disconnected from what's going on in the game in real-time. He'll leave a starter in when he's struggling to do anything right, and pull him when he's killing it at both ends.
