Has anyone heard or read who Drew intends to keep on his staff?

Nope, but I'd like to know as well. I don't suspect we'll know for another couple of weeks unless Drew already had his squad lined up before he got the job. It takes a while to interview and hire if you do it correctly.

MrHonline, so Drew is getting swamped with calls? That's good to hear but may make his selection tougher and could be more time consuming.

:conversation:

Doesn't matter at all who his assistant coaches are if he will not listen to them.

It matters a great deal if they are hired to help - to do their jobs @ whatever

position they are hired to do.

Hopefully, we have an open minded coach who desires good help.

He coached with Theus somewhere?

Two sources for that:

First, when BK blocked Drew from taking a different assistant job, the job would have been in Sacramento to work for Theus.

Second, Theus has been one of the guys helping out with Drew's summer camp... some other interesting names there, too, btw:

Reggie Theus and Mike Woodson were alot like Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford in terms of what roles they played for the Kings in the 80's. Of course Drew was their PG.

I see Michael Cooper would be at the camp. I remember he won the first few WNBA Championships as Houstons head coach. He would be nice to have as a defensive coach since he was one of the best perimiter defenders to ever play the game.

I also see Dave Fizdale is there too. He was my favorite assistant when he was Hawk. I know he left for Miami right before we got good. I'd love to have him back. I'm not sure if he is still under contract with Miami or not.

This is what stood out to me the most in your second link:

Drew tries to get high school players to realize the importance of shooting because kids need to know that "if you are a 6'2" forward in high school you will need to adjust to the perimeter play at the next level." A recent example of the passion that Larry Drew brings to the game can be seen in All-Star New Jersey Net forward Richard Jefferson who describes his old coach as a "hard knocks" teacher of the game. Drew knew that Jefferson could be more than an athletic transition player. They discussed the adjustments in his game to make him more multi-dimensional. Drew states, "Richard Jefferson is a very talented player. He and I devised and studied a lot of video to construct a plan and goal of making him a better shooter by using the seams of the basketball to increase his outside shot percentage. We showed him how to 'seam it up better'. He made us all proud while I was with the Nets by dedicating himself fully to this goal. I love finding that extra dimension in people and helping to make them better by implementing a plan to get them there."

It appears the Hawks got themselves a very cerebral head coach who is great at skill development in his players.

When Richard Jefferson came into the league, he could barely hit the broadside of a barn from the perimeter. He went from shooting around 24% from behind the arc to shooting 36% after one season with Larry Drew coaching him.

Love it! Keep the good word coming! Can't wait for the season to start already

Michael Cooper, Eddie Johnson, Mike Woodson, Darrell Walker, Herb Brown, Reggie Theus, Brian Shaw, Kenny Natt, Chris Bodaken, Norm Nixon, Mark Aguirre, Patrick Ewing, Phil Ford, Dave Fizdale, Mitchell Butler, Bob Bender and Leonard Hamilton.

My guess is that if Drew can get these guys to come, that would be his staff. I still see Hill as either consultant or scout.

Can an assistant make the same amount as the coach?

Maybe a mixture of Butler and Mark Price can make our shooters better.
