Everyone says Josh can't play SF because he can't shoot 3's, but there's no such thing as a perfect player. All are good at some things and not good at others. There's plenty Josh can't do at PF, too. Not all SF's can shoot from deep consistently. For 2009-2010:

LeBron James 33.3%

Rudy Gay 32.7%

Richard Jefferson 31.6%

Carmelo Anthony 31.6%

Caron Butler 29.0%

Smoove is a worse shooter then all of them.

The # 1 attribute Smoove has is his shot blocking. Put him at SF and he is standing around the perimeter on defense taking away from his oppurtunities to protect the rim and change shots.

On offense we have to have a perimeter oriented PF or C in order to play Smoove at the SF. We do not have one of those.

Smoove looks good driving around slower PFs off the dribble. Put him against quicker SFs and he will not be able to drive by them the same as he does to PFs.

There is a HUGE difference between the 3 and the 4. Its not like the 2 and the 3 which can be very similar.

No the ability to shoot period is just as valuable as shooting from distance for a wing position. These are all those guys percentages on jumpshots

Lebron: 43.6%

Gay: 44.6%

Jefferson: 40.6%

Carmelo: 41.0%

Caron: 47% with Mavs 40% with the Wiz

Now look at this

Josh Smith: 28.5%
