Premium Member Vol4ever Posted July 23, 2010 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 23, 2010 by not signing Kurt Thomas. If you remember the playoff series against the Bucks he was key on their interior defense. Isn't interior defense a glaring need on this team? Oh well

HAWKSFAN89
I agree. We need some kind of bruiser that will do anything to get under another teams skin. Players like this increase our teams toughness.
T21
I would have definitely considered signing him, especially in this shrinking market!
Popular Post Chinky_eyed_hawk
You have to think about it from the players prospective as well. It easy to say we didn't sign him but maybe its like the whole Chris Paul thing were we arent even considered a viable candidate verses our competion. Think with Thomas he gets to back up Noah, where here he would have been 3rd behind ZaZa??? They have a solid front court as well as a great up and coming PG. Sund can offer all he wants but if the player doesnt actually WANT to come here, we just end up complaining all day from the viewpoint that our gm and ownership arent going after every one. It all has to match finacially, geographically in some cases, PT, contender status, competition, etc.... Just things to think about..... :write a letter:

Josh Powell is a stretch forward at best, the complete opposite of Thomas IMO.

ZaZa is not even a servicable backup. Thomas is a bruiser, absolutely what the Hawks needed. Powell is a another cheap fringe player.

He's more of a PF anyway. Right now, I guess our backup PF is Powell . . but it will end up being Marvin and Horford who are the primary backups at the 4. BusBoyIsBack
If we don't sign Shaq or any big body in free agency, and it cost us again vs Dwight Howard, then it's solely on the ASG. And it has nothing to do with Joe Johnson's contract either which the media will focus on

Signing a player isn't a matter of pressing a button. The player has to want to be here. And much as Vol loathes Zaza, the reality is that no coach with a brain would play Kurt Thomas ahead of Zaza at center. Kurt wouldn't have seen much of the floor here. Elsewhere (inc Chicago) he could. Voila. Edited July 26, 2010 by niremetal
