TheNorthCydeRises
Talk about bad, or perfect timing http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5411372 ( mods . . . please eliminate the "a" at the end of the word "extension" ) . . . damn typos Edited July 26, 2010 by northcyde
coachx
Well, he will have to wait like almost everyone else. His expiring contract is the most valuable trade chip that Sund owns. He is not about to lose that chip by extending him early. Especially with a lockout looming. Edited July 26, 2010 by coachx
Packfill
It would be a huge mistake to extend Crawford at this point.
IHeartAtlanta
Cmon yall serious??? Extending him is a great idea, he is the 6th man of the year, lead out team in scoring in the second round, and is a 100% class act, RESIGN HIM SUND
Flight
he's 6th man of the year. I wouldn't have a problem with it.
pimp
Horford will be getting a new contract next year. So, likely , the only way we keep Jamal , and stay under the luxury tax would be to dump Bibby or Marvin's contract.
gsuteke
You guys aren't seeing the big picture if a team wants to dump salary and give up a star craw's deal unextended is worth about 12 mill - a kg type of move 3 years ago
spotatl
ITs unfortuante for Crawford that his breakout season came right as the Hawks are butting up against the luxury tax line and With Horford's contract looming I just don't see any chance at all that the Hawks extend him without knowing what the rules for the luxury tax will be under the new CBA. HAWKSFAN89
Damnit.... Craw must get this extension. I still want to see a Bibby or Teague/Craw/JJ/Smoove/Horf starting lineup

Can't you go aver the salary cap if the players already on your roster? and Mo Evans conrtact is coming off the books next year
YP2K
I hadn't thought of the possibility of an NFL lockout at the same time as an NBA lockout. That would be interesting . . .
spotatl
The Hawks could max out Crawford if they wanted to regardless of what the cap is. But the luxury tax is the real issue. The ASG are not going to pay the luxury tax for the third best team in the division.

Agreed. See what the new CBA brings and what trades might be accomplished with Crawford's expiring deal. If Jordan Crawford emerges, this is not a spot on the roster that we can afford to pay $10M/year, IMO.
WraithSentinel
Let me guess he want an extension that is likely worth $9 or $10 mil per. Craw need to understand this is likely his last year with the Hawks. Go out and put up another6th man of the year performance. Then you will get your contract elsewhere. Jordan is Jamal replacement. frosgrim
I would be very surprised if Crawford is with the Hawks past the trade deadline. That expiring contract is just too valuable a trading chip. You know it would be nice if we didn't (as fans) have to worry about our team's financial structure... Watchman
I guess I'm in the minority, but I hope Jamal retires as a Hawk. I agree. Let's throw away a good talent and a really good guy like Jamal, but let's by all means grossly overpay to keep JJ, Bibby and Marvin. I am extremely puzzled as to why we wasted a draft pick on Jordan Crawford (a player at a position which we were already in good shape with JJ and Jamal) while giving away a promising SF (a position at which we are undermanned.)
