MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP)—An attorney says three armed men looking for Lorenzen Wright(notes) showed up at the home of the former NBA player’s ex-wife about six weeks before he was found shot to death.

Lawyer Gail Mathes says her client, Sherra Wright, was afraid for herself and her children so kept quiet about the encounter until Monday. She then alerted police in the Memphis suburb of Collierville.

Mathes says the men, dressed in sport coats with weapons in view, threatened Sherra Wright and her family if she told anyone about the visit. Mathes’ account was first reported by The Commercial Appeal.

Lorenzen Wright’s body was found Wednesday in woods in southeast Memphis. He had been missing since July 18, when he left his ex-wife’s house around midnight with an unidentified person.

For some unknown reason, I don't believe the ex-wife.

link please.... sorry but I hate to see thinks like this with no link.... not good MB/website etiquette :write a letter:

Ahhh Crap! I will put thelink

Name of external link

This statement is eerie...

A few weeks later, the athlete made an impromptu visit from his Atlanta-area home to Memphis. A day after his flight arrived, he was gunned down.

What made him come from Atlanta?

He specifically went to his ex-wife's house? Late at night?

Men escorted him from his ex-wife's house?

Why would Wright have a roommate?

I do not know what happened to the other thread, I seen a bunch of posters talking senseless about suicide when info came out that it was a murder. I guess they listened to those clowns on 790 and thought it was a suicide. RIP Lo. I said this in the other thread that this had a Menace to Society feel when he was just leaving Atlanta and came back to Memphis to take his family and move for good. This is tragic, very tragic.

Either way he was clearly in financial trouble and involved with some bad people that ended up getting him killed.

You do not know that, quit assuming when you don't know anything about the case. This isn't Atlanta Hawk talk, this is a man's life we're talking about.

First of all. How in the hell you wake 6 weeks to tell your ex-husband, father of your kids, and probably your meal ticket that goons are running around looking for you?

Then, how the hell the goons knew he was in town? She knows way more than what she is saying. She probably help set him up or something. As much as Memphis is on that show THE FIRST 48. She wouldve flown to me, not me going back up there to Memphis.

This whole thread is throwing around assumptions at his ex-wife. It's not an assumption that he was in financial trouble. It is also not an assumption that he was involved with shady people. The assumption is that they are connected and that his association with these shady people was at least at one point voluntary. I find that assumption no worse then the assumption that his ex-wife has some guilt in these events. For all we know he may have still loved her. Perhaps it would be best if no one commented at all about this very sad event until the facts are given light.

Yeah what thugs would sit around all night waiting for someone who doesn't even live in the state. His ex-wife set him up. It isn't hard to get someone killed. The police better check her phone records. I bet he still had insurance policies for the children worth alot of money.

Honestly, sounds like he was involved with drugs, and he probably owed someone a large sum of money. Maybe, he borrowed money from them and could not pay it back or something. The ex-wife is looking very suspect now--Why not called the police when 3 armed men come to your house?

Hopefully the young men in the league learn something from this, and use/save their money wisely, because after they leave those millions of dollar salaries in your 30's, it's nearly impossible to sustain the same lifestyle.

Thugs that he owed a large sum of money will wait longer than that for him to enter back into their comfort zone; it's not like they have real jobs.

I don't know I would not say she set him up; she is not the sharpest in the shed. However, I think she knew he was involved in some shady practices, and she had a feeling that someone's days was numbered.

There may or may not be drugs involved. But that does'nt mean she did'nt have anything to do with it. Her stories have been too inconsistent for someone who claims they don't anything about what happened.

Whoops jsmoovefan I meant to give you a +1 not a -1 sorry. I agree with you jsmoovefan her stories are not consistent and what about the time line.? How long did it take to report Lo was missing. She'll probably be an accompliss but lets wait to the police have done their investigating.

We saw in the Mcnair case a crazy woman and now possibly this happening.Men have got to be careful alot of crazy people out there.

Mods can you fix this issue. Trying to remove the -1 on jsmoovefan comment #16.
