Moderators AHF Posted November 19, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted November 19, 2010 Ah, still bringing up far in the past qualifiers to discuss present circumstances. Fact of the matter is this trade is and will be looked at as nothing more than a contract dump. The talent just won't and hasn't been equal. There are a lot of things that go into determining Marvin's present value: his performance, his health, his skill-set, his mental game, his age, his potential for improvement, his risk of regression, etc. One of the things that has absolutely nothing to do with his present value is where he was picked in the draft. It is totally irrelevant, yet it boggles my mind how much it is brought up. At this point, it doesn't matter if Marvin was a second round pick and got his second contract or the #1 overall pick taken over Dwight Howard, Lebron James and Michael Jordan. All that matters is how his contract is structured, his present value, team needs, and the availability of replacement-level talent around the league. I hope no one wants to keep or get rid of Marvin because of his draft status.
Dsinner
Why are we using average statistics to declare this trade a wash? It's not really that simple. Fact is Marvin isn't getting any better. In this system, he is actually getting worse. Given the system we are running I'd make the trade. He certainly couldn't play any worse than Marv in it and if he did we could actually trade him. Question really is why wouldn't we? The players are a wash at the very least (with one possibly being better in our offense), only we can actually trade one of them if he doesn't perform. To me it would seem like a good move for the team's possible present and definite future to make the trade. Just my 2 cents.
GameTime
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5740709 Louis Williams, Marreese Speights, Andres Nocioni and Jason Kapono for Jamal Crawford, Marvin Williams and Mike Bibby Get it done Sund. Sixers get the scoring guard they need a potential SF in Marvin and a vet in Bibby that can menton Jrue. Hawks bring Louis Williams home and can share PG/SG duties with Joe Johnson. Louis Williams can get to the FT line like no bodies business. Marreese Speights is a solid young big to backup Smoove/Horf (has been in the Collins' Doug house) We also get a bruiser in Nocioni and a three point specialist (and expirer) in Kapono. PG Louis Williams/Jeff Teague SG Joe Johnson/Jordan Crawford SF Andres Nocioni/Mo Evans/Jason Kapono PF Josh Smith/Marreese Speights/Josh Powell C Al Horford/Marreese Speights/Zaza

Don't get it done Sund. You understand we run a motion don't you? Plus Craw can't run an offense yet he is basically our PG. It is funny how you guys want Jack/Billups and then say Louis can't run an offense. Louis is a better scorer/defender than Crawford and isn't afraid of contact. Nocioni is an upgrade just for the fact that he can stretch the floor and is much tougher than Marv. Speights is an upgrade over all our bigs. Yeah, Craw plays at PG but have you noticed how bad our offense looks when hes in at PG? Now you get Williams who is very much like crawford, a shoot first type player. I don't know where you get this info but Williams is NOT a better scorer then crawford, nor is he a great defender. Nocioni can very much space the floor, but I do not want to trade for an aged SF who is declining Edited November 21, 2010 by WhassupHawks
Premium Member Atlantaholic Posted November 21, 2010 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted November 21, 2010 I would trade Louis Williams for Crawford straight up right now... We are basically getting a good look at the type of player Crawford has been for 10 of his 11 NBA seasons... and it is ugly with a capital U. Joker
This is thing about fan-bases, they have a tendency to severally overrate or underrate their talent. You guys are seriously underrating our talent. Crawford is still one of the best 6th man in the league. Marvin is very talented just doesn't give more effort than what's required to play. Andres plays hard but he's not that good, just average as well but no where near as talented. Speights and Kapono are garbage. Some of you guys need to chill with bad trade ideas.
