MoBetta
Granted it was just one game against the Warriors but they are still a high scoring team and we shut them down with Good D. Bibby defense was so bad it brought down the entire team defense becuz other players would have to cheat. Man that defense was a sight for sore eyes. Im only mad that LD was so stuck on starting Bibby. We could have won more games if LD wasn't obsessed with Bibby.
Premium Member Sothron Posted February 26, 2011 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 26, 2011 I've been saying for the last two seasons Bibby is killing our defense. This is a five on five game. If you have one guy who can't defend his position AT ALL and it happens to be the one where the fastest players are at....yikes. You could immediately see the difference last night with Hinrich and Teague being able to defend their position by themselves instead of relying on help defense what it did to everyone.

Exactly We were essentially playing 4 on 5 with Bibby. We actually should have 40 wins right now but LD had to be an old stubborn Donkey and stick with Bibby. Bawse
Bibby was definitely a gaping hole in our defense, all of the true basketball fans knew that. His tempo also killed our overall game too, because we like to run and gun. Don't fear, the Captain is here.

He had the experience and he didn't shoot 8th grade push shots from the perimeter and he wasn't a turnover machine. While everybody is excited about the performance last night - I still saw the same flaws in Teague's game,. If we are smart we will pick up a backup pg from the waiver wire....or somewhere...until JT improves. We are basically in the same boat but with a better starting pg. :kickcan:

tbhawksfan
Our MASSIVE PG problems might be behind us for a while. Hinrich is going to fit in well, upping his game and helping others to improve. JT has looked ready to play some minutes. We have a quality starter, let's see if JT can play well 15-20 minutes a game. JC can pick up mor minutes at SG with JJ sliding to SF a bit. Young players have to have the confidence that they will not get yanked every time they make a mistake and Drew must allow him to learn from game experience. We don't need another pg to back up Kirk. It's time for teague to step up and show what he got. YES! Bibby was that bad. (on defense)
BusBoyIsBack
The crazy thing is we were able to build an above average defense even with Bibby struggling on defense Hawks Opposing PPG Rank in the 2000s: 2011- 7th 2010- 9th 2009- 10th 2008- 14th 2007- 14th 2006- 26th 2005- 29th 2004- 23rd 2003- 21st 2002- 25th 2001- 15th 2000- 18th The last 3 years including this year we've been in the top 10. Honestly with Hinrich taking pressure off of help defense, the difference could be the Hawks defense now becoming ELITE and elevating to the top 4-5 of that category. Maybe top 2-3. Superiorblogman
Mike Bibby is good for what he is good for which is Eddie House at this point.
99PROBL3MS
It was a refreshing sight to see even if it was for one gane. Teague and Hinrich smothered Curry and Joe put the clamps on Ellis. The uptempo style will benefit us in many ways. Hopefully it forces Smoove to lose that bad weight and become that high flying monster we miss. As much as his jumper has improved, he could be a force. thecampster
A couple of thoughts there. yes he was that bad defensively. Yes, Mo Evans was also part of the problem defensively. Maybe the second biggest part (bigger than Craw). Think in your head..when was the last true steal Mo got? Yes, Al, Marvin, Josh, Joe are that good defensively. playing 4 on 5 our defense was good enough. that's why everyone yelling to trade Josh, Marvin was so frustrating. They really do have that kind of a defensive impact...so much so as to make up for Bibby being a broken screen door.
Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted February 27, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 FWIW, we got Bibby On Board with his first field goal (a 2-pointer) as a 'Zard. Good news for him so far is through limited minutes in two games he has 7 assists to just one TO. ~lw3

bird_dirt
f yi, heat looking to get bibby if the wiz' buy him out. link i'd hate to see it playing against him on the heat, but if it were to happen, i hope we'd take full advantage of his defensive (dis)abilities that got him traded in the first place. gsuteke
The Heat would use Bibby as a shooting specialist off the bench which is what he's good for at the vet minimum.
Admin capstone21 Posted February 27, 2011 Admin Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 The Heat are terrible at PG but with Wade and Lebron they don't need a true pg. Bibby would be a better option then what they currently have available.
gsuteke
If bibby was having that big of a negative impact on the hawks defensively we should hope miami signs him as our bigs own theirs defensively.
