MrMeltdown
Well it has started already. Guys that some around here are salivating over are re-signing with there original teams. I have made my statement that it is not a bright idea to count on getting FA's here but I am going to make a thread to track the FA's nonetheless and we will see how team capspace does and how this unfolds. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/FreeAgents-12-13/nba-free-agents-2012-2013 That is the list according to ESPN. Feel free to post the players as they become unavailable to team cap space through FA's. Serge Ibaka: Re-signed for similar amount as Al Horford. Moderators AHF Posted August 20, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted August 20, 2012 I think it would be more interesting to see where you thought this team was going after this season with Joe on the books (unless you are one of those people that thinks Joe could have been moved for attractive players under attractive contracts in which case there isn't much to say on that line of thinking other than to agree to disagree). I agree that free agency will be challenging (especially if we were going to target middling impact players like Ibaka). For my money, Horford >> Ibaka. MrMeltdown
There is already a stickied post above with this info. Well this is more about watching them as they sign and re-sign. If you think they are redundant just add this to the other one and put something about "watch" in the headline.

Next time anything "official" is being posted can we have a little less rhetoric? I myself am ecstatic that Ibaka got signed for $12 mil per/4 years. Perfect. Harden just got a lot harder for them to afford. W
WakaFlocka
For my money, Horford >> Ibaka. Of course most of us here are biased, but I don't think anyone around the league (fans and front office people, etc.) would disagree with that statement. On topic, I don't think Ferry and crew are 100% banking on waiting until next summer's FA period to spend our money. IIRC, Ferry stated in one of the recent interviews linked here that he'd have no problem pulling the trigger if the right trade opportunity came up during this season. We'll certainly see what happens, regardless.
coachx
So Ibaka, Harden, and S. Curry have been pulled from the 2013 free agency pond. Who else signed extensions that I missed ? Hopefully the 2014 free agency pool is deeper then 2013. Has anyone done any home work on the 2014 FA class yet ? Edit: I think T. Gibson signed an extension too.........not that he is a "big fish" but he is a serviceable starter on most teams. coachx
Ok........nothing much left in the 2013 free agency pond unless your enamored with Al Jefferson......or think C. Paul or D. Howard are looking to leave LA. Below are intrigueing names in the 2014 FA pond: PF:D. Favors RFA C:Cousins - RFAMonroe - RFAHawes - URFAGortat - URFA I'd love to get in on Favors or Monroe but surely their current franchises will plan on matching all offers. Admin
Definitely not looking great for 2013 and probably not for 2014 either. I sure wouldn't mind rolling the dice and seeing if the Kings would trade us Cousins for Josh as he'd be an ideal big to play next to Al.

I can't see the Pacers letting him walk though. Its looking more and more like draft picks and trades are the only way to significantly improve the roster. Cap space is nice but you need some fish in the pond to fish for. I'd trade Smith for Cousins in a heartbeat. Wonder of Smith would be open to resigning longterm with the Kings though. Big risk of the Kings there but a great deal for the Hawks.

I think that drafting and trading is Ferry's plan A and plan B and probably has been all along as he probably didn't expect any big time FA's to be available and whom would also sign with the Hawks. Big risk for both teams, but I think Josh might be open to it as he'd get a fresh start and the Kings would basically be 'his' team. Though I'm not sure how he'd fit with Thomas Robinson long term, which is probably why they'd never do the deal unless they really wanted to get Cousins out of there.. coachx
J.J. Hickson is a RFA I would strongly consider making a bid for this summer. He played HS ball in Atlanta and was drafted by Ferry in Cleveland. He has alot of reason to like Atlanta. Plus he is averaging 12 ppg and 11 rpg in only 29 mpg this year. He has a per over 20 the last 2 years too.........and is still only 24 years old. Edited January 18, 2013 by coachx

He would be a very difficult guy to sign because he's not a max contract player so you can't just throw the most possible at him and he's not a MLE guy either. With him being a RFA Cleveland will have every opportunity to match and they very well could if a team doesn't make the right offer. During that time where they decide whether or not to match, that amount of money will be gone from the available cap room we could sign a player with. So for me, unless it's our only hope or we know for sure the other team won't match I'd stay away from RFA's.

He has been with Portland the last 2 seasons playing center next to Aldridge..........he plays more like a post them Smith. Kimsey
Guys we may interest in, Via Rotoworld. 1. Former Timberwolves GM David Kahn believes Nikola Pekovic is "probably aiming for a double-digit salary" as a restricted free agent during the offseason. It's what we expected to hear, but Pekovic's free agency has the potential to turn into a monster headache for the team. The Wolves aren't good enough as currently constructed, but they can't really afford to lose Pekovic without a suitable replacement. A desperate team will throw Pekovic a multi-year offer at something like $10-12 million per season, a figure that may be difficult for Minnesota to match when looking at all of the holes on the roster. It's rare a team lets a restricted free agent leave, especially someone as critical as Pekovic is to Minnesota 2. J.J. Hickson said he would prefer to play power forward instead of center next season. 3. Brandon Rush (left knee) expects to begin running and light jumping in approximately three weeks. He has been off crutches for nearly a month and it sounds as though his rehab is progressing well enough that he'll be ready to go for training camp. Rush has a $4 million player option for next season. 4. Jarrett Jack shut down contract extension talks with the Warriors during the season, multiple sources told the Contra Costa Times. Kimsey
1. The Pistons are expected to target a shooting guard in free agency. That would be a good idea considering it's an obvious area of need. Along with O.J. Mayo, the Detroit News suggests names like Andre Iguodala, Tony Allen and Kevin Martin as potential fits for different reasons. However, the report cautions it's "more likely" the team will be active on the trade front, and that makes some sense considering the last time the Pistons were flush with cap space the team wound up with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva on bloated five-year deals. 2. Andre Iguodala is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract.Iguodala is on the books for a hefty $16M in 2013-14. But at age 29, he'll exercise an opt-out clause, become an unrestricted free agent and go hunting for one more mammoth deal. As one of the league's premier wing defenders and an excellent distributor from the small forward spot, he'll get it. The Nuggets have the financial flexibility to pay Iguodala, but it's uncertain if they'll be his strongest suitor. He'll test the market. May 3 - 2:51 PM 3. The Mavericks want to re-sign impending free agent Brandan Wright.Wright showed some serious improvement while with the Mavs for the last two seasons. A valuable reserve in 2012-13, he averaged 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in just 18.0 minutes per night. Still just 25 years old and measuring in a 6-foot-10, Wright is going to attract real interest on the open market. The Mavs won't be able to hold him at arm's length while pursuing Dwight Howard and other top-flight free agents. May 3 - 4:41 PM 4. Jason Maxiell is "hanging in there" after having surgery to repair a detached retina.Maxiell will not play again this season and has "likely" played his final game with the Pistons. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and Detroit is set to enter next season with a front line of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Apr 9 - 8:29 AM 5. Mike Dunleavy, an unrestricted free agent, admitted he likes the Bucks but stopped short of guaranteeing his return.Dunleavy was a solid pickup for the Bucks and will have no shortage of interest on the open market as someone capable of doing multiple things off the bench. "I like being here; I grew up here," he said. "I'm willing to come back. Honestly I haven't given a lot of thought to it." The Bucks have a huge offseason ahead, and it wouldn't surprise us to see Dunleavy try and land with a more competitive team. Apr 30 - 8:02 AM 6. Paul Millsap admitted his impending free agency had an impact on him this season."I'm human, so no," he said when asked if he was able to put free agency aside during the season. "That's me being honest." The prevailing thought is that the Jazz will either re-sign Millsap or Al Jefferson, but not both with youngsters Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter ready for larger roles.
