I don't want Dwight Howard coming here

I'm not a Dwight fan by any stretch but the stats illustrating his defensive impact can't be overstated. It's just a slippery slope bringing in someone who thinks he is smart enough to weigh in on personnell decisions above him. Ferry isn't having that foolishness. Dwight wants a coach he thinks he respects, and I don't even think that's Avery Johnson, it damn sure ain't LD. He probably has some grandiose thoughts of luring Phil whether he goes. It'll get out through his "people" then he'll deny it. Just way too much of a diva, and like Wurider enumerated, too much off the court baggage for someone with a laughable post game for his size and experience and questionable future health of his back.

I do. Nique had what, 15 kids and he was always cheating. I would take Howard in a millisecond.

LOL, come on Ben Hill, he makes a team a top 5 defensive team by himself. I think you are understating his defensive impact.

It's not that you'd take him, it's that do you think he wants to be around his ultra religious family when he's obviously trying to live the NBA lifestyle? He talked that talk many moons ago about God and starting a bible group and becoming a Hawk but once he got that taste he was knocking up cheerleaders, white chicks, stalking pornstars and desiring the bigger lights of NYC. Now his lawyers can lock his baby mamas up on ironclad libel contracts but his fam and guys he grew up and around with.......not so much. Can't sue the barbershop.

I personally don't care, even Mr. Preacherman, Mark Jackson got caught up in a "mama there goes that ho" case so I'm not sweating the hypocrisy but if Dwight himself is worried about his brand and his own personal embarrassment coming back to Atlanta....then it's relevant.

I know that we are desperate for a star to lead this franchise and energize this fanbase, but I just don't think that D12 or Josh are the answers to winning anything of any consequence. I would still trade Josh. Get a defensive big in here. Our star/scorer that needs to be brought in should be from the SM or SG position, in my opinion. And we need an upgrade at PG. Not a star, but someone who can create and defend and who has a high BBIQ.

Peach tree hoops is saying d 12 doesn't want to sign an extension with anyone! That leaves us out, which may be best

What is everyone not getting about him not signing an extension. If he gets to Fa'gy which is what he wants he has the ability to sign a 5 year maximum contract with a starting higher salary that what he has now. If he signs an extention it is for 3 years added unto his existing contract. By not signing the extention he can command more years and a whole lot more money. Same thing with Cris Paul. Yep I certainly see it from Dwight's point of view. It's a huge risk for anyone to trade for him without knowing whether he'd re-up there but since Brooklyn won't be able to sign him in FA there won't be many teams that can so I think he's worth the risk... plus we'd likely be able to get quite a bit for him in a SnT if we did decide to grant his wish and move him to Brooklyn.

Add to that is bad back he probably wants to maximize his money if he thinks his back might be an issue going forward. We will be able to get some value from a S-n-T but if it's to Brooklyn who would we be getting - Joe?.....LOL

Let's not confuse "extend" with "resign", he doesn't intend on "extending" with Brooklyn either despite that being his desired location but he will resign. As far as the Hawks turning around and getting the same package from Brooklyn...well it'll be difficult because the way they are spending now already puts them in taxville. Couple that with pay raises likely exceeding the cap raises and they'll be severely hindered in the amount of salary they can take back in a trade next season thanks to the new rules.

We'd get the package that they're offering the Magic. Lopez, Humphries, Brooks, 3 future 1sts. If not then sorry for ya Brooklyn!

What I think about is that we have a reputation of not being able to acquire quality free agents. Getting a resigned Howard would do so much to change this franchise. A rental wouldn't. A player of Howard's level wanting to be here is such a big thing... No longer would this place look unattractive to all the free agents. The cost of not getting Howard is much higher. We're back to 1999, but with a much worse reputation.

Well, since he doesn't want to be here i don't think it will be an issue.

Yeah I don't see him extending with anyone as like JayBird said he's going to want that 5 year deal. We'll have to see but I'm sure that we'd be able to get a solid group of players / picks from Brooklyn no matter what if he's really that dead set on going there and they want him that bad.

I don't think Brooklyn is resigning Humpries unless it's to include him in a deal for D12 now to make salaries match. If they are not able to swing a deal I don't think they resigning him.

What I'm saying is that they'd have to send back more salary than they receive which would put a damper on the capspace Ferry worked hard to achieve.....and that's even if Brooklyn is still dead set on Dwight, they are making moves right now to contend right now. doubtful that they put themselves in a bind by trading more players for Dwight next season with even less ability to replace them. Only way I see that happen is if they severely underachieve this season.

Look at these numbers why CP3 won't sign an extension now - Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul passed on a chance to sign a three-year, $60 million extension with the club this summer. But no, you shouldn't read too much into that. Paul passed, he said, because he can sign a five-year, $108 million extension next summer

That is a 48 million dollar difference.

I guess D12's deal would have similar numbers.
