Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted September 7, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted September 7, 2012 Haven't had a chance to break down the rationale, but here's yet another mega-ranking... BusinessWeek's shot at the MLB+NFL+NBA+NHL franchise rankings using their own formula. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-08-30/smartest-spenders-in-sports With their authors' defaults for bonus points thrown in, the Hawks rank 34th out of 122 teams. That would be tops among Atlanta franchises [last year's top team in the 404? The Thrashers. :( ], and 8th among NBA teams (behind Lakers, Celtics, Heat, MAGIC???, Spurs, Thunder, Mavericks). The rankings are based roughly on how much teams spent relative to their wins over the last 5 completed seasons. Compared to last year's rankings (http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/the-smartest-spenders-in-sports-10202011-gfx.html), BW added a bonus for wins above .500, as well as playoff wins and championship wins as a percentage of a season, whatever that means. Without the bonuses, the Hawks would rise slightly to 28th but get passed among Atlanta teams by the Falcons (24th) while finishing 9th. Maxing out the bonuses, the Hawks would only drop to 38th and get passed only by Cleveland (thanks, LeBron) among NBA teams. ~lw3
TheNorthCydeRises
That just shows that they past 5 years was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. The Hawks simply have a MAJOR public relations problem. And it starts at the top.

Maybe they talked to the spurs owners
